New Delhi, November 2, 2026 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit & Expo 2026 at Bharat Mandapam, asserting that clean energy is central to India’s energy security and economic resilience amid global disruptions.

Addressing industry leaders, investors, startups and international delegates, Modi said the global economy had faced successive crises, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the West Asia conflict. He credited India’s decade of investment and reforms in renewable energy with helping the country navigate these challenges.

“The future of Energy Security lies in Clean Energy,” Modi said, warning that dependence on fossil fuels exposes economies to disruptions because reserves are finite and concentrated in limited regions.

Highlighting India’s renewable energy progress, Modi said the country had achieved more than 50 per cent non-fossil installed power capacity in 2025, five years ahead of its Paris commitment. India has reached nearly 300 GW towards its 500 GW non-fossil capacity target for 2030. He announced an ambition to add another 500 GW of non-fossil capacity over the next 10 to 11 years.

The Prime Minister said the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana had attracted more than 65 lakh households, with rooftop solar installations helping families reduce electricity bills and sell surplus power. He also highlighted solar irrigation benefiting over 30 lakh farmers and solar installations across government buildings.

Modi urged startups, IITs and entrepreneurs to develop all-weather solar solutions capable of meeting household energy requirements, including solar cooking and charging electric vehicles. He also called for solar-powered agricultural and dairy equipment and greater investment in indigenous battery storage.

Emphasising investment opportunities, Modi said renewable energy had attracted over ₹15 lakh crore in the past decade. Investment opportunities could exceed ₹20 lakh crore by the end of the decade.

He also announced a proposed $200 million Africa Solar Facility, reiterating India’s commitment to international clean energy cooperation.
