America’s most-watched couple may be days away from saying “I do” — at the most famous arena in the world.
A trail of permits, police briefings, and a mayor’s slip of the tongue is pointing to one unmistakable conclusion: Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are planning to get married at Madison Square Garden over the July 4 holiday weekend, and New York City is already bracing for the moment.
CNN confirmed with multiple city and law enforcement sources that a permit application to hold “an event” in the vicinity of MSG has been submitted by an event company known to plan weddings. Neither Swift’s nor Kelce’s name appears on the permit, but the trail of evidence runs deep.
The New York Times reports that Swift has rented the iconic sports arena for July 2 through July 4, with a 100-person gathering planned for July 2, and roughly 1,000 guests expected on July 3.
According to the Times, Winick Productions — an event-planning company — filed the application with the city and requested to set up a tent outside Madison Square Garden for an event of 500 to 999 people. The Times, citing an unnamed city official, reported that MSG “is planning to host the wedding festivities on July 3.”
The city’s own leadership hasn’t exactly played coy. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani referenced Swift’s wedding directly during a news conference, listing it alongside the Knicks’ Finals run and the America 250 celebrations as reasons the city was “incredibly excited to welcome the world.”
Law enforcement is already in position. Amtrak police officers in charge of Penn Station — which sits directly beneath MSG — told the Times they have been “told to expect a Swift wedding the weekend of July 4,” and NYPD officers told Variety they were “briefed about a potential influx of Taylor Swift fans, paparazzi and onlookers” surrounding the venue on July 3.
Chiefs coach Andy Reid, when asked earlier this month whether he’d be attending the wedding, said he “can’t talk about it.” George Kittle told Extra TV that Swift and Kelce have a strict “no gifts” policy — “They said absolutely no gifts,” the 49ers tight end confirmed.
The venue itself has some practical advantages. Madison Square Garden has no windows and secluded entrances that could provide the couple with privacy — a key consideration for two of the most photographed people on earth.
Not everyone is convinced the MSG plans are the full picture. Tabloid reports and Swiftie sleuths online have speculated that MSG might host the wedding celebration but not the actual nuptials, which could occur beforehand in a private setting — or may have possibly already taken place. Swift’s history of elaborate misdirection hasn’t gone unnoticed either. A source familiar with invitations told CNN that wedding guests were told the event would take place in New York City on July 3.
Swift was spotted courtside at Game 4 of the 2026 NBA Finals at MSG alongside Este Haim, Daniella Haim, and Mariska Hargitay — a visit many fans now read as a site inspection in plain sight.
Just days ago, Swift made a surprise appearance at Kelce’s annual Tight End University event in Nashville, taking the stage alongside country star Lainey Wilson to perform “Love Story” — with Swift noting the song request came from a “very special tight end.” Kittle, watching from the wings, put it plainly: “She’s just such an awesome person to give us her time this close to their wedding.”
Kelce proposed in August, two years after their whirlwind romance first captivated the internet. The couple has kept wedding details tightly guarded — but with city permits filed, streets being closed, and the NYPD on alert, the secret is very much out.
Representatives for Swift, Kelce, and Madison Square Garden have not responded to media requests for comment.
