Revolutionary Guard confirms simultaneous operation with Lebanese militant group as Israel retaliates with heavy bombardment of Beirut suburbs

By TRH World Desk

New Delhi, March 12, 2026 — Israel came under a dual-front missile assault on Thursday night. Iran and Hezbollah launched a coordinated attack in what military analysts are calling one of the most significant escalations of the ongoing regional conflict.

Hezbollah fired approximately 100 rockets across the Lebanese border into northern Israel. Iranian ballistic missiles were also launched simultaneously. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps later confirmed a deliberately synchronized operation.

Al Jazeera’s Rory Challands, reporting from Israel, described the scale of the onslaught: “There was a huge salvo of rockets from Hezbollah in Lebanon — some 100 rockets launched across the border into Israel — and that happened simultaneously with Iranian missile launches coming over as well.”

Challands added that Iran’s Revolutionary Guard subsequently confirmed the joint nature of the strike, saying they “had engaged in a simultaneous operation, a coordinated operation with Hezbollah, clearly trying to overwhelm Israel’s defences.”

Reports of damage emerged from both northern and central Israel, he added. In the north, Hezbollah salvos struck ground-level targets. Challands also told the broadcaster that Iranian missiles intercepted over central Israel sent debris raining down on populated areas.

“Getting verified details has proved difficult, however, due to strict Israeli military censorship that requires all publicly released information to be officially cleared. Individuals who post unauthorized footage on social media risk prosecution,” added Challands.

Israel responded with what witnesses described as heavy bombardment of Beirut’s southern suburbs. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened urgent security consultations, and Israeli media began circulating reports of a planned expansion of ground operations in southern Lebanon — where Israeli forces have been working to establish a buffer zone pushing Hezbollah back from the northern border.

In a significant diplomatic warning, Israeli officials are said to have passed messages through Western and American intermediaries to the Lebanese government, threatening to strike government buildings if Beirut fails to rein in Hezbollah.

Meanwhile, Israel confirmed launching what it called “extensive strikes” on Tehran, part of a joint air campaign with the United States targeting Iranian assets that has been ongoing for over a week. Israeli officials have offered limited specifics on targets or outcomes, with media attention focused primarily on the Lebanese theatre.
