Haryana Gives No Succour to Congress in Municipal Elections

By Amit Kumar

Gurugram, March 12: Haryana skyline boasted saffron hues on Wednesday. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) asserted political domination of the Jat-land.

In the Municipal elections in Haryana, the BJP raised the bar of domination in the state politics. The Congress faced humiliating losses across the region.

The scale of the BJP victory was buzzing in Haryana. In Faridabad, the BJP nominee Parveen Joshi struck the goldmine by winning with the biggest margins in the country. Joshi won by over 3,16,000 votes. She trounced Congress candidate Lata Rani.

The municipal elections were held close on the heels of the Assembly elections. The BJP had secured third straight mandate in Haryana in the Assembly elections.

Extending the gains in Haryana, the BJP won mayoral posts in Ambala, Faridabad, Gurugram, Hisar, Karnal, Rohtak, Sonipat, and Panipat. The BJP is also on course to win in Yamunanagar.

The Congress faction-fighting was blamed for the losses in the Assembly elections. The principal Opposition party appears to have not made amends to situations in the ranks in Haryana.

Magical BJP Win In Haryana Floors Modi-Baiters

The Congress could not win any mayoral post in Haryana. The humiliating defeat of the Congress has come amid the party leader Rahul Gandhi questioning voters’ lists in the states.

Independent candidate Inderjit Yadav won Manesar mayoral post. The polls were held on March 2. Panipat Municipal Corporation polls were held on March 9.

BJP’s candidate Swarn Kaur defeated her rival with a significant margin in Ambala. The BJP candidates won in 25 out of 32 wards in Ambala.

“This victory confirms that the people of Ambala Cantonment fully support the development work undertaken under Minister Anil Vij’s leadership. As a result, voters have elected BJP candidates with overwhelming support,” said the office of Vij in a media statement.

But the polling percentage in the Haryana municipal elections was just 42 per cent. The low voters’ turnout is majorly seen in the local body elections.

But the Congress plight in Haryana gained the spotlight. The infighting within the ranks of the Congress in Haryana appears to not have been addressed, said a senior party functionary. The Congress top brass in stock taking of the Assembly poll loss had called for course corrections.
