Probe into Tata Consultancy BPO flags workplace misconduct, forced conversion claims; SIT formed, multiple arrests follow
By NIRENDRA DEV
New Delhi, April 15, 2026 — A major controversy has erupted at a BPO unit of Tata Consultancy Services in Nashik after multiple employees alleged sexual harassment, coercion, and misconduct by colleagues and team leads, prompting a multi-agency probe.
Police have registered nine FIRs based on complaints from eight women and one man. At least six accused have been arrested so far, while others remain under investigation. Authorities have constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to examine the allegations in detail, with preliminary findings indicating that at least 12 individuals may have been affected.
According to FIR details, the alleged incidents took place over an extended period between July 2022 and February 2026, involving employees largely in the 18–25 age group. The charges include molestation, inappropriate physical contact, stalking, sexual relations allegedly established on the pretext of marriage, and other forms of workplace harassment. Some complainants have also alleged coercive behaviour linked to personal beliefs.
The accused have been identified as Danish Shaikh, Tausif Attar, and Nida Khan. They have also been accused of exploiting their senior positions in the company to target women. Two more accused — Raza Memon and Shahrukh Qureshi — have also been accused of similar charges.
After the case was revealed, there has been protests in the city with the people even alleging that “forced conversions of Hindu girls into Islam were being accrued out by the accused.”
In specific complaints, accused individuals have been named for making offensive remarks, engaging in unwelcome physical contact, and persistently targeting colleagues despite objections. In one instance, a complainant alleged that a colleague promised marriage and initiated a relationship under false pretences. Others have described repeated harassment inside office premises, including inappropriate gestures and comments.
A key concern flagged in multiple statements is the alleged failure of internal grievance redressal mechanisms. Some employees claim that verbal complaints to supervisors or HR personnel were either ignored or not acted upon in a timely manner. Investigators are now examining internal communication records, digital evidence, and whether there were lapses in corporate compliance protocols.
In an official statement, Tata Consultancy Services termed the allegations “gravely concerning” and reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards any form of workplace misconduct. The company said it is fully cooperating with law enforcement agencies.
The case has sparked a wider debate on workplace safety, accountability, and enforcement of employee protection laws in India’s fast-growing corporate sector.
