New Delhi, April 25, 2026 — A fresh debate over the risks of advanced artificial intelligence has erupted after Djoomart Otorbaev, former Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic, flagged alarming claims about a powerful unreleased AI model developed by Anthropic.

In a LinkedIn post, Otorbaev described “Claude Mythos Preview” as a breakthrough so potent that it has been deliberately withheld from public release—not due to failure, but because of its unprecedented success in identifying and exploiting critical software vulnerabilities.

“The model can identify and exploit vulnerabilities in critical software systems that have gone undetected for decades,” Otorbaev noted, adding starkly, “In short, it can dismantle the modern internet.”

According to his assessment, the AI represents a fundamental disruption to the long-standing equilibrium that has underpinned global cybersecurity. For decades, coding and debugging required significant expertise, creating a natural barrier that limited both innovation and exploitation. That scarcity, while imperfect, provided a degree of systemic stability.

However, the reported capabilities of Claude Mythos signal a dramatic shift. The model is said to detect zero-day vulnerabilities across major operating systems and browsers—flaws that even seasoned experts and automated systems failed to uncover over millions of attempts.

Otorbaev highlighted striking examples: a 27-year-old flaw discovered in OpenBSD and a 16-year-old bug in FFmpeg. These findings, if verified, would underscore the depth of latent vulnerabilities embedded in widely used digital infrastructure.

More concerning is the model’s reported ability to autonomously generate functional exploits on the first attempt, chain multiple vulnerabilities, and compromise systems within 24 hours—all at relatively low cost.

“This turns what used to take expert hackers months into a matter of minutes,” Otorbaev wrote, pointing to the emergence of “agentic reasoning” in AI systems—where models independently plan and execute complex tasks.

The implications are already reverberating across global security networks. Otorbaev referenced “Project Glasswing,” a defensive initiative reportedly involving tech giants including Amazon, Apple, Google, Microsoft, and JPMorgan Chase, aimed at countering emerging AI-driven threats.

Yet, the risk landscape is expanding beyond traditional tech players. With AI-assisted programming tools enabling millions of non-experts—from small business owners to nonprofit operators—to write code, the volume of potentially vulnerable software is surging.

“They are not trained developers. Their code is unvetted. And every line is potentially vulnerable,” Otorbaev cautioned, warning that future AI systems could exploit this rapidly growing attack surface.

The stakes, he argued, are existential for the digital economy. A single malicious actor equipped with such AI capabilities could disrupt banking, healthcare, or government systems within hours, fundamentally altering the balance of cyber power.

“The balance of the internet has collapsed,” Otorbaev wrote, emphasizing that security is no longer defined by scarcity of expertise but by access to advanced technological capability.

This dual-use nature of AI—simultaneously driving innovation and amplifying risk—lies at the heart of what he termed the “paradox of AI.” While it unlocks unprecedented opportunities, it also introduces new vulnerabilities and ethical dilemmas around deployment and control.

Key questions now loom large: Who benefits first from such breakthroughs? Who bears the initial risks? And can the internet evolve to withstand this new level of complexity?

Otorbaev concluded with a stark warning that the emergence of systems like Claude Mythos demands an urgent rethink of global cybersecurity frameworks, AI governance, and developer safeguards.

“Mythos is more than just a model; it acts as a mirror,” he wrote. “It reflects our creations—and reveals their core vulnerabilities.”

As policymakers and tech leaders grapple with these challenges, one question remains unresolved: will the future of digital security be universally accessible, or restricted to those who can afford to defend themselves?
