Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister accuses Congress and Samajwadi Party of hypocrisy on Lord Ram and Ayodhya, urges all sides to wait for the SIT report before making allegations.
Lucknow, June 19, 2026 — Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday launched a sharp attack on the Congress and the Samajwadi Party over allegations about the Ram Temple donations and offerings. He assured that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe ordered into the matter would establish the truth.
Addressing a public gathering in Ayodhya, Adityanath accused the Congress of historically opposing the construction of the Ram Temple and questioned the party’s current concern for devotees of Lord Ram.
“The same Congress that made every effort to prevent the construction of the Ram Temple is today claiming to speak on behalf of Ram devotees,” he said. The Chief Minister referred to past legal positions taken by Congress leaders in court and alleged that the party had previously questioned the existence of Lord Ram while opposing the temple movement.
Targeting the Samajwadi Party, Adityanath recalled incidents linked to the Ram Janmabhoomi movement and accused the party of suppressing Ram devotees in the past. He said those who had allegedly ordered action against kar sevaks and objected to chants of “Jai Shri Ram” were now attempting to portray themselves as defenders of devotees.
The Chief Minister’s remarks came amid controversy surrounding reports related to Ayodhya. He said the state government had ordered an SIT investigation at the request of the concerned trust and expressed confidence that the probe would bring out the facts.
“The SIT will separate truth from falsehood. There should be no doubt about that,” Adityanath said.
Appealing for restraint, he urged political parties, religious groups, and members of the public to avoid statements that could hurt the sentiments of Ram devotees or influence the ongoing investigation. He also asked anyone possessing documentary evidence related to the matter to submit it to the SIT.
Adityanath emphasized that devotees had waited centuries for the construction of the Ram Temple and should continue to act with patience and dignity. He warned against attempts to malign Ayodhya or tarnish the image of the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple through what he described as misinformation campaigns.
“If anyone is found guilty, no one will be spared. But until the investigation is completed, unnecessary allegations and character assassination should stop,” the Chief Minister said.
He reiterated that the government remained committed to ensuring a fair inquiry while safeguarding the reputation of Ayodhya, one of Hinduism’s most revered pilgrimage centres.
