Even after rejecting speculations of stake sale, shares of Whirlpool of India gained over five percent on Friday, while the stock in the past has rallied on unconfirmed news reports of divestment of stakes.
Mumbai, September 25, 2026 — Shares of Whirlpool of India Ltd surged over five per cent on Friday. The stock rose a day after responding to the exchange that there’s no fresh move on selling stakes. The stock had gained 20% on September 23, touching a high of ₹865.35, after CNBC Awaaz reported, citing unnamed sources, that Whirlpool Mauritius — the company’s parent entity, which held a 39.76% stake as of the June 2026 quarter — is set to sell its stake in Whirlpool India.
Trading activity spiked dramatically alongside the price move: roughly 8.91 lakh shares changed hands on the BSE. The stock on Friday closed at ₹903.
Critically, this rally is currently built on an unconfirmed report rather than an official company disclosure. Data from 5paisa shows the BSE formally sought clarification from Whirlpool of India on September 23, “with reference to news appeared in moneycontrol.com… dated September 23, 2026 quoting ‘Whirlpool of India promoter set to sell entire stake, reports CNBC-Awaaz; shares surge 17%.’” \
It clarified on Thursday that the news report relates to the “promoter” company and not to the Whirlpool of India. It said Whirlpool Corporation’s intent to reduce its shareholding in the India company has been in the public domain since January 30, 2025.
Not the First Time This Exact Story Has Moved the Stock
This is also not a new narrative for Whirlpool India — it’s a recurring one, tied to a strategic intent the parent company disclosed publicly well over a year ago.
Business Standard reported that on January 29, 2025, Whirlpool Corporation announced its intention to sell down its ownership interest in Whirlpool India to approximately 20% during 2025, via market sale. That disclosed intent has already driven at least one prior speculative rally: in April 2025, Whirlpool shares surged 10% to ₹1,316.50 as “a large private equity firm eyed a stake” in the company, part of a month in which the stock rose 33% overall and bounced 46% off its 52-week low of ₹899.
Today’s move, in other words, is the latest in a pattern of rumour-driven spikes tied to essentially the same underlying, previously-disclosed divestment plan — one that, as of today, still hasn’t been confirmed to have actually concluded in the specific form.
Where the Stock Sits Despite the Jump
Even after today’s surge, Whirlpool remains well off its highs. The stock “remained down 34.53 per cent over the past 12 months” despite the day’s gain, as its 52-week range spans ₹706 to ₹1,437 — meaning even at ₹903, the stock sits roughly 37% below its own 52-week high from earlier in the cycle.
It isn’t purely a speculative story, however. IndMoney noted real underlying improvement: net profit has risen for three consecutive quarters, from ₹26.49 crore to ₹102.88 crore, averaging 44.5% quarterly growth, while revenue has grown for four straight quarters, from ₹1,700 crore to ₹2,790 crore, averaging 14.9% quarterly growth.
IndMoney’s peer comparison data also puts Whirlpool’s struggles in sharper relief: over the past year, competitor Bosch Home Comfort India returned -3.9%, still outperforming Whirlpool by 41.6 percentage points, while over three years Bosch outperformed Whirlpool by 94.2 percentage points — underscoring that Whirlpool’s underperformance has been a sustained, multi-year pattern relative to at least one direct peer, not simply a recent stumble.
What Technical Analysts Are Watching Next
With the stock now in active, high-volume trading, near-term technical levels have shifted quickly. SEBI-registered analyst AR Ramachandran of Tips2trades, quoted by Business Today, said the stock “is bullish on daily charts with strong support at ₹772,” adding that “a daily close above the resistance of ₹875 could lead to an upside target of ₹978 in the near term.”
Jigar Patel, Senior Manager of Technical Research at Anand Rathi, offered a similar but slightly more conservative framework in the same report, placing support at ₹820 and resistance near ₹900, with the potential for a move toward ₹940 “if decisive,” while expecting the stock to trade within an ₹820-940 range in the short term absent further news.
