The steelmaker has rebounded roughly 23% in a week from near its 52-week low, on heavy turnover and a newly widened price band. Its financials show a company whose growth has stalled and whose margins have stopped expanding.

Mumbai, October 16, 2026 — Shares of Gallantt Ispat Ltd rose 9.04% to ₹618.35 on Thursday, a gain of ₹51.25 against a previous close of ₹567.10. The stock traded between ₹560.90 and ₹648.45 and carries a market capitalisation of ₹14,920.79 crore. A ₹1,000 investment a week ago would now be worth ₹1,228.96.

The day’s range tells the story. The stock dipped below its previous close to ₹560.90, then ran 14.35% to ₹648.45 before settling about 4.6% off that peak. Sellers were active into strength.

The wider context matters more. The 52-week range is ₹470.80 to ₹946.70, so the stock sits 31% above its low and nearly 35% below its high. Working backward from Rediff’s weekly return, the stock was near ₹503 a week ago, which is just 7% above the 52-week low.

Thursday’s move follows an earlier spike. On October 12, the stock jumped 14% to 18% intraday, depending on the exchange and outlet, from a ₹503.75 close, according to Upstox. It then slipped for two sessions before bounce, which closed above the October 12 intraday highs of ₹578–594.

Volume expanded on the second leg. MarketsMOJO reported 44.44 lakh shares and ₹252.59 crore traded on October 12, then 1.0051 crore shares and ₹631.82 crore on October 15, roughly 2.5 times the earlier turnover. That is about 4% of the company’s equity changing hands in one day.

The recent BSE filings listed are routine: the annual report (September 20), a newspaper publication, and a Reg 29(2) SAST disclosure on September 21, which signals a large holder changed its stake by at least 2% but predates the rally by three weeks.

MarketsMOJO described both October moves as “a distinctly stock-specific rally rather than a mere market tailwind,” noting the Sensex was down 0.12% on October 12 and up 0.67% today. That same service rated the stock “Sell” (Mojo Score 37.0, downgraded from Hold on August 5).

The profit story of FY24–FY25 was margin expansion, with operating margin rising from 8.5% to 16.2%. That has now flattened. FY26 operating profit grew just 3.2%, and sales growth has been in low single digits for three years. At about 34.8 times earnings, the price assumes a re-acceleration the reported numbers don’t yet show. Return on equity is 15.6% and RoCE is placed at 18.2%.
