Shah’s ironies

Union Home Minister Amit Shah claimed that the New Education Policy has been inspired by Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore, and The Telegraph in its Editorial has said that the humour is ironical. The daily argued that the state of shambles in Shantiniketan, which is under the administration of the Central government, bares disconnect between Tagore’s worldview and that of the BJP.

The Kolkata-based daily stated that Tagore indeed called for education in mother tongue as a template against the British, but the laureate was open to all languages. The daily dubbed Shah’s eulogies to Tagore as an act of absurd humour, underlining that Shantiniketan is in pitiful shambles.

The National Education Policy 2020 has just been rhetoric, and worse is that education is dragged into ideological slugfest. The likes of IITs, IIMs have powered the Indian dream on the world stage. Excellence in education is not gained with political speeches.

Delhi Discord

The Supreme Court has ruled that the elected government in Delhi has the power over the services, and The Asian Age in its Editorial has said that the lieutenant governor is to be bound by the advices of the city government. But the daily has said that the incumbent Delhi LG Vinai Kumar Saxena knows ways to manufacture confrontations with Arvind Kejriwal-led government.

The daily underlined that while the provisions of Article 239AA have been upheld by the apex court, the record of Saxena gives no sense of comfort. It sought that no further impediments be created for the Delhi government.

The judgment of the Supreme Court calls for the spirit being followed by the stakeholders. Delhi government can no more complain of officials not listening to the ministers, and Saxena should focus on constructive role.

US Pivot

India and the US trade at $190 billion with Indian surplus is in contrast to trade with China where the country’s deficit exceeds $100 billion, underlined The Indian Express, while crediting Prime Minister Narendra Modi for shunning American hesitancy in New Delhi. It stated that the US is now part of India’s defence modernization, while over five lakh strong Indian diaspora continues to be the flag-bearer of India’s national interests.

The Noida-based daily stated that India is in the company of the US in the East Asia and West Asia quadrilaterals. The daily claims that the bilateral relations is in sharp contrast to anti-Americanism within the BJP.

Architect of robust India-US relations was late Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and the Pokhran nuclear test had set up the ground for the reset in ties. The claim that BJP inherently has anti-Americanism is a figment of imagination of the daily, which suffers from a lack of understanding the saffron outfit, which in its economic worldview has always been more inclined to the US than any other nation.
