Patna, March 27, 2026 — Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar took part in Ram Navami Shobha Yatra on Friday in Patna along with senior leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He has also wrapped up his Samriddhi Yatra during which he unveiled record number of projects.
But Patna is speculating wildly on the next move of Bihar CM. Political observers in Patna believe that Kumar will leave for New Delhi on Monday to chart his next course of actions. Before he takes oath as a member of the Rajya Sabha, Kumar also has to resign from his membership of the Legislative Council of Bihar.
Hectic parleys were seen in Patna on Friday. The Janata Dal (United) core group meeting held its meeting. Bihar CM’s son Nishant Kumar attended the meeting.
The buzz in Patna signals a delayed formation of the next government under a new CM. It has been reliably learnt that Kumar is still negotiating key positions for the JD (U) with the BJP. The post of the Bihar Assembly Speaker has become a sore point in the state NDA. The JD (U) wants the post for ceding the CM position to the BJP. Also, portfolios are yet to be settled.
Sources in the JD (U) said that Kumar may take Rajya Sabha oath only next month. By then, the BJP has to meet the expectations of Kumar, said sources in the JD (U). They also stated that the new government may be formed by middle of the next month only “if all goes smoothly.”
Political observers noted that the countdown to one of Bihar’s most significant political transitions in two decades has entered its final hours. Both the Bihar Assembly and the Legislative Council are on recess until March 29, and with the Houses set to reconvene on March 30, Kumar is anticipated to submit his resignation as MLC on the same day.
Yet even now, BJP leaders in Patna are growing wary over the delay in picking the new CM, with the political pot in the state remaining very much on the boil.
