Kargil Musharraf

Former Pakistani dictator Pervez Musharraf will be laid to rest in the grave with his body fully soaked in blood of innocents from geographies spanning India to Afghanistan. He ordered genocide. He authored the Kargil War and Mumbail serial blasts. Musharraf carried the unfinished agenda of his icon Zia ul-Haq to turn Pakistan into a country of jihadist Mullahs whose veins flowed with terrorism and hatred for humanity. In his after years, Musharraf sought to turn saint and talk peace, only to be abandoned by his kids in the Rawalpindi headquarters, exiling him to Dubai.

The Asian Age in an Editorial noted that Musharraf had “swashbuckling leadership style and a modernist impulse in a land riven asunder by Islamist passions”. The daily claimed that Musharraf did more than anybody in Pakistan to resolve the Kashmir issue. The daily also underlined that Musharraf proved a trusted ally of the US. But it also mentioned assassination of Benazir Bhutto and Nawab Akbar Bugti of Balochistan under his watch. The daily also recalled Musharraf’s stoic answer of “Not, now”, when he was asked by a delegation of Indian journalists of the next attack on India.

A section of the Indian media has long romanticized with Pakistan. They exhibit symptoms of dancing on a frying pan whenever there is anything about Pakistan. Emotional deficiency of the Indian media while reporting and commenting on Pakistan is worrisome. This is because Pakistan is run by cold-blooded monsters, who lord over its military, politics and madrassa. They have to be reduced to smithereens, which can only be done if emotions don’t jaundice understanding of Pakistan and the very idea of its existence.

Tripura Triangular

Tribal nationalism in Tripura has added the third angle to the state Assembly elections. Bikram Manikya Debbarma, who wears his royal lineage, has spurned the offer of alliance of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress. His demand for greater Tripura for the tribal district council was rejected by both the national parties.
The Hindu in an Editorial has given an account of three-way poll in the state among the BJP, Congress-Left and the Tipraha Indigenous Progressive Regional Alliance (TIPRA) Motha, which has been in power in the autonomous district council since 2021. The Chennai-based daily stated that the Motha is contesting 42 of the total 60 Assembly seats in the state. It reflected on tribal (31.8 per cent of the population) and non-tribal politics of Tripura. But, the daily stated, Motha is also contesting 12 non-tribal dominated constituencies.

The daily couldn’t recall that the BJP government when led by rookie Biplab Deb, who was intoxicated by India’s mythological scientific prowess, had failed to build bases among tribal, and party’s relations with leaders from such areas were marred with disaffection. The Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress is the fourth factor, as the party seeks to cash in on the Bengali vote base.

Deflating Balloon

China is a global spy. Beijing took globalization far seriously and sought the whole globe for its surveillance China flew spy balloon over the US airspace. There are reports that such balloons had been flying over several countries for the past several years.

But the US after the Russia-Ukraine War is seething with anti-China sentiments. The Pioneer in an Editorial has sized up the moment of the US shooting down the Chinese spy balloon. The Noida-based daily argued that even Adolf Hitler had dreaded a two-front war, but this is not the case with Xi Jinping, who has opened several war zones – Himalayas, Indo Pacific, Taiwan, Japan and others.
