BSP chief urges workers to strengthen booth networks and convert public anger over inflation and unemployment into electoral support.

Lucknow, May 24, 2026 — Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati on Sunday asked party workers to intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of upcoming Assembly elections. She launched a sharp attack on the BJP over inflation, unemployment and what she termed growing public distress.

Addressing a meeting of the BSP Uttar Pradesh state unit in Lucknow, Mayawati reviewed the party’s preparations at the booth level and directed cadres to strengthen public outreach campaigns.

According to the statement issued by the party, Mayawati emphasized expanding organisational work down to polling booths and increasing public engagement through awareness drives and issue-based campaigns.

The former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister said the party must become “more active, energetic and determined” to convert public anger into political support.

Her remarks come as political parties prepare for a series of Assembly elections over the next year, including key contests in Uttar Pradesh and neighbouring states.

Mayawati said recent elections had presented “new and serious challenges” and urged BSP workers to remain vigilant and focused on strengthening the organisation.

Targeting the ruling BJP, the BSP leader alleged that current political, social and economic conditions in the country were “painful and worrying,” arguing that inflation, unemployment and policies favouring big corporate interests had adversely affected ordinary citizens.

She claimed people were finding it increasingly difficult to maintain their livelihoods and dignity amid rising costs and economic stress. “The constitutional duty of governments is welfare and public service,” she said, adding that governance should prioritise employment, social harmony and law and order.

Mayawati also highlighted the BSP’s past governance record in Uttar Pradesh, saying her government focused on social justice, public welfare and strengthening law and order.

Referring to the party’s electoral slogan, she reiterated the call to bring back a “Bahujan-oriented government” in the state. The BSP chief additionally cautioned workers against internal factionalism and directed leaders to identify strong candidates and ensure booth-level preparedness.

She stressed that political parties become disconnected from people when they fail to remain active between elections. The statement also reflected BSP’s attempt to reposition itself as a social justice and welfare-focused alternative amid a crowded political field in Uttar Pradesh.
