According to Al Jazeera, Trump made the announcement on Truth Social, claiming that the “perimeters of a deal” had been agreed upon. The Qatar-based outlet reported that Trump said his decision came in response to requests from Iran and other Middle East countries to hold off on any attack while a deal was being finalized, with his agreement conditional on that deal being concluded quickly.

Al Jazeera further noted the proposed terms of the arrangement, reporting that the agreement would reportedly bring about the full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and an end to what Trump called Iran’s nuclear threat. The outlet added that there had been no immediate response from Tehran, though Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had earlier told his Saudi counterpart that any US or Israeli strike would be met with a proportionate response.

Israeli outlets, meanwhile, reported on the tense build-up preceding Trump’s announcement. The Jerusalem Post reported that two Israeli sources told the paper Israel had raised its alert and readiness level amid assessments that Trump was close to ordering a resumption of strikes on Iran, potentially on a larger scale than before. The Post cited officials saying Israel was on high alert and awaiting the president’s final decision.

The Times of Israel offered further detail on the diplomatic backdrop, reporting that Trump said he had called off the attack after being assured by Tehran and other regional governments that a deal framework was in place, with Israel also confirmed as on board with holding off on a major strike against Iran.

Haaretz, the Israeli daily, reported that Trump said Iran and several Middle Eastern countries had asked Washington to postpone military action because the outlines of an agreement had been reached, adding that Israel had joined the decision to hold off.

No formal response from Tehran had been confirmed at the time of publication, and questions remain over how quickly — or whether — the outlined terms can be converted into a binding agreement.
