Prime Minister Narendra Modi says the new terminal building will strengthen tourism and trade in Jodhpur as he prepares to inaugurate the ₹480-crore facility and launch the Modified UDAN scheme.

New Delhi, July 3, 2026 — After a delay of several months, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday finally announced that he will be inaugurating the new terminal building at Jodhpur Airport. The terminal, already built months ago, had been awaiting the Prime Minister’s availability for the inauguration.

“The inauguration will mark a special day for the people of the city,” said Modi, expressing confidence that the upgraded aviation infrastructure will boost tourism and commerce in Rajasthan.

In a post on X ahead of his Rajasthan visit on July 4, Modi said Jodhpur occupies a significant place on India’s tourism map and that the new terminal would encourage more visitors to the historic city.

“Tomorrow, 4th July, is a very special day for the people of Jodhpur. The New Terminal Building of Jodhpur Airport will be inaugurated. Jodhpur has a very important place as far as tourism in India is concerned. This upgraded infrastructure will encourage more tourists to come to Jodhpur. It will boost commerce as well,” the Prime Minister said.

The inauguration comes months after the terminal was completed but remained unopened pending the Prime Minister’s availability for its formal launch. The delay had drawn attention as the fully built facility stood ready while passengers continued using the older terminal.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Modi will inaugurate the new terminal at around 10:45 a.m. on Saturday and simultaneously launch the Modified UDAN scheme aimed at expanding regional air connectivity. The revamped scheme has an outlay of ₹28,840 crore over the next decade to support the next phase of aviation-led development.

Developed at a cost of about ₹480 crore, the terminal spans more than 23,000 square metres and is designed to handle up to 20 lakh passengers annually. Inspired by Rajasthan’s architectural heritage, it incorporates traditional Rajputana elements such as arches and jharokhas while featuring modern passenger amenities and sustainable design practices targeted at achieving a five-star GRIHA rating.

The upgraded facility is expected to significantly enhance passenger experience and strengthen Jodhpur’s position as a gateway to Rajasthan’s tourism circuit, while also supporting regional trade, investment and employment.

After the airport inauguration, Modi will travel to Balotra, where he will dedicate, inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for development projects worth around ₹1.06 lakh crore across sectors including petrochemicals, railways, roads, renewable energy and power transmission before proceeding to Gujarat later in the day.
