The RSS says the Ram Temple donation theft has shaken devotees’ faith, calls for swift action by the Uttar Pradesh SIT, and urges the Ram Temple Trust to restore confidence and punish those responsible.
New Delhi, July 3, 2026 — Breaking silence on the Ram Temple donation row, the RSS on Friday said that “incident of theft in the donation boxes kept at the Shri Ram Lalla temple in Ayodhya has deeply hurt the sentiments and faith of the entire society and Ram devotees.” RSS general secretary Dattatreya Hosbole in a video statement said that “we are all extremely pained and angered by this event.”
Hosbole, while calling upon the people to maintain “patience and restraint”, put the spotlight on Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath as he stated in clear terms that the SIT constituted by the Uttar Pradesh government “should take all the necessary actions.”
The RSS also sought to suggest that the organisation is keen to contain the crisis. Hosbole singled out the Ram temple trust and the SIT for the cleansing of the mess.
Remarks of Hosbole are significant in the context that he expressed dismay at “the conspiracy theories and attempts to malign the Hindu Dharma.” At the outset, the RSS seems keen that the crisis unfolding in the aftermath of the donation theft case be contained internally by the Trust.
Incidentally, the SIT, constituted by Adityanath, has submitted its report but its findings have not been made public. Also, an impression is being given that the police are taking actions on the basis of the complaints of the trust.
“The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh also calls upon the entire Hindu society to display necessary patience and restraint during this difficult moment and to thwart the conspiracies of anti-Hindu and anti-national forces seeking to malign the Hindu dharma and society by exploiting this unfortunate incident,” added Hosbole.
The RSS through the statement has clearly shown that the organisation is seeking expeditious damage control following the donation theft row. The Opposition is seeking an independent probe in the issue. But the RSS has shown confidence in the SIT.
Two trust members have resigned after the donation theft case became public. Champat Rai, who was the general secretary of the trust, and Anil Mishra, a member, have resigned after the furore over the donation theft case. Both had been members of the RSS in the past.
“…Trust (should) treat this highly condemnable incident as an extraordinary matter and take effective steps to rectify all shortcomings in temple management and operations. This is crucial to ensure that the faith and reverence of crores of Ram devotees in the Ayodhya temple remain unbroken and steadfast. The current state of confusion and uncertainty must end,” added Hosbole.
It is essential to ensure that anyone found guilty after the investigation faces severe punishment, added the RSS general secretary.
