Israel’s prime minister has skipped seven straight cabinet sessions, vanished from live cameras for 17 days, and is releasing only pre-recorded video — analysts say it signals weakened air defences and an intelligence breach, not a health crisis.

New Delhi, March 17, 2026 — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has failed to appear at his seventh consecutive security cabinet meeting, raising urgent questions among journalists and analysts about the state of Israel’s air defence infrastructure and potential intelligence compromises.

Independent journalist Ethan Levins, reporting on X, first flagged the pattern: “Netanyahu today has missed his 7th straight security cabinet meeting. Everyone else is in attendance.”

He further stated that “Netanyahu has not held a press conference in 17 days. Trump has been in front of live cameras hours a day. Iran’s president has been seen in the streets, and the foreign minister does LIVE interviews.”

The absence stands in sharp contrast to other world leaders’ public schedules and has stoked speculation across intelligence and geopolitical circles.

U-based journalist Adam Cochran offered a detailed analytical framework, arguing the pattern points not to Netanyahu’s rumoured death — a rumour circulating online — but to something potentially more alarming for Israeli national security.

“This is a BIG tell just not the one people think,” Cochran wrote on X, adding: “It’s likely Netanyahu isn’t dead. BUT, it likely reveals the Iron Dome is either compromised or low on interceptors — AND that Israel had a big intelligence leak.”

Cochran cited a constellation of supporting signals: reports that a relative’s home was struck; the sudden social media silence of Netanyahu’s son, who had been tweeting from a known US location; the shift to releasing video only after departing locations rather than any live footage; and the broader regional picture in which US and allied interceptor stockpiles are known to be strained, patriot batteries have been struck, and regional radar infrastructure has been degraded.

His conclusion: Iran has been actively targeting Netanyahu and his family as reciprocal pressure for Israeli strikes on the Khamenei family — and a combination of intelligence gaps and weakened defences has forced Netanyahu to abandon all predictable patterns.

“They don’t want Iran realizing how bad the situation is,” Cochran wrote, adding: “Because if people knew Netanyahu was hiding, they’d realize that Iron Dome/Patriot defence systems are having issues or are low on munitions, and that could cause panic.”

Israel has significantly restricted the sharing of damage footage inside its territory, making independent assessment of the situation difficult. Analysts note the pre-recorded video strategy serves a dual purpose: maintaining a public appearance of normalcy while denying adversaries real-time location intelligence.

Neither the Israeli Prime Minister’s office nor the Israel Defence Forces had issued a statement addressing Netanyahu’s absence at time of publication.
