NEET UG 2026 Cancelled, Exam to Be Re-Conducted After Probe Into Alleged Irregularities
By TRH Education Desk
New Delhi, May 12, 2026 — The National Testing Agency on Tuesday announced the cancellation of the NEET (UG) 2026 examination conducted on May 3 and said the medical entrance test would be re-conducted on fresh dates to be announced later.
In a media statement, the NTA said the decision was taken with the approval of the Government of India after examining inputs received from central agencies and investigative findings shared by law enforcement authorities regarding alleged irregularities in the examination process.
The agency stated that the “present examination process could not be allowed to stand” and said the move was necessary to preserve transparency and public trust in the national examination system.
The Union government has also decided to refer the matter to the Central Bureau of Investigation for a comprehensive inquiry. The NTA said it would extend full cooperation to the CBI and provide all relevant records and materials required for the investigation.
The cancellation is expected to impact lakhs of medical aspirants across the country who appeared for the examination earlier this month. Acknowledging the inconvenience caused to students and families, the agency said the decision was taken because allowing the existing examination process to continue would have caused “greater and more lasting damage” to the credibility of the system.
The NTA clarified that candidates will not be required to submit fresh applications for the re-examination. Existing registration data, candidature details, and examination centre preferences from the May 2026 cycle will automatically be carried forward.
The agency also announced that no additional examination fee would be charged for the re-test. Fees already paid by candidates will be refunded, while the re-conducted examination will be held using NTA’s internal resources.
Fresh examination dates and revised admit card schedules will be announced through official NTA channels in the coming days. Candidates and parents have been advised to avoid relying on unverified social media reports.
