Congress walks BJP path ahead of 2024 Lok Sabha elections

New Delhi, December 24: The Congress in a significant organizational reshuffle has given crucial responsibilities to the party’s relatively younger faces ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. The Congress has for long been struggling to find space for the party’s restive young crop of leaders.
The organizational reshuffle in the Congress is being seen as a precursor to the grand old party finally embarking on shedding the image of an outfit of elders. Sachin Pilot has been made the party in-charge for Chhattisgarh. Randeep Singh Surjewala will hold the charge of Karnataka. Avinash Pande has been given the responsibilities of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
Notably, the Congress effected the major organizational reshuffle amid the rival Bharatiya Janata Party phasing out its ageing former chief ministers in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan where the younger leaders were promoted. The incumbent chief ministers of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan Mohan Yadav, Vishnu Deo Sai, and Bhajanlal Sharma are in the 50 years age group. With the BJP promoting leaders from the 50 years age group for key responsibilities, the Congress is under pressure to also adjust to the demands of the party workers.
The Congress according to the political observers is noted as most averse to changes. The grand old party has struggled in the past to give space to the youngsters in key positions. The Congress’ loss in Rajasthan and Madjya Pradesh has been attributed to the party failing to promote young faces.
The likes of Kamal Nath in Madhya Pradesh and Ashok Gehlot were seen by the political observers as roadblocks to denying the space to the youngsters. Jyotiraditya Scinda is known to have left the Congress to join the BJP after finding that the party’s old leadership of Kamal Nath and Digvijaya Singh was blocking progress of his career.
The Congress also faced rebellion from Sachin Pilot after Ashok Gehlot sought to cut him to size in the state politics in Rajasthan. Even now the political obsevers are doubtful if the Congress is doing cosmetic reshuffle in the affairs of the party or it’s serious about fundamental changes. A section of the political observers believe that Sachin Pilot will remain on the margins of the state politics in Rajasthan. The supporters of Ashok Gehlot are accusing him to have ensured the defeat of the Congress in Rajasthan as the party could win only 19 Gujjar dominated Assembly seats in the elections against 29 which were won in the 2018 poll.
