Samrat Choudhary invokes Nitish Kumar and targets Lalu Prasad Yadav, stresses NDA unity and jobs push

Patna, April 24, 2026 —Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary delivered a combative speech in the state Assembly on Friday, rejecting Opposition claims and asserting that “no one is anyone’s political guru” in a democracy, while underlining unity within the NDA and a development-focused agenda.

Addressing the House, Choudhary credited Nitish Kumar for shaping Bihar’s political trajectory, even as he took a swipe at Lalu Prasad Yadav. “If Nitish ji was not there, would Lalu ji have become Chief Minister? Even Lalu ji became Chief Minister because of Nitish Kumar ji,” he said.

The Chief Minister dismissed suggestions that leaders emerge from any individual’s “political school.” “This is democracy. No one is anyone’s ‘pathshala’ (school),” he asserted, adding that his own political journey was shaped by संघर्ष (struggle), including legal battles that went up to the Supreme Court.

Reflecting on his past, Choudhary said adversity—including imprisonment in earlier years—had influenced his entry into politics. “If I had not faced oppression, I may not have entered politics,” he remarked, emphasizing that he had fought cases in lower courts, High Court and the Supreme Court and emerged victorious.

Amid speculation of internal rifts, Choudhary sought to send a clear message of cohesion within the ruling alliance. “The entire party is united. Do not live in confusion. The NDA family is together and will work only for Bihar’s development,” he said.

He also highlighted his rise within the Bharatiya Janata Party, noting that the party had given him multiple leadership roles, including state president and Deputy Chief Minister before elevating him to the CM’s post.

Choudhary reiterated the government’s commitment to employment, aligning with broader promises made by Narendra Modi and Nitish Kumar. “We are working towards providing one crore jobs and employment opportunities,” he said, positioning it as a central pillar of governance.

He contrasted his government’s approach with earlier regimes, accusing past leadership of focusing on “loot” rather than development. “The goal is not just youth leadership but prosperity for Bihar,” he said.

A significant portion of the speech focused on women’s representation and safety. Choudhary pointed out that a large proportion of women legislators in Bihar come from OBC and Dalit communities, calling it a sign of inclusive governance.

He credited earlier policy decisions under Nitish Kumar for expanding women’s participation through reservations in Panchayati Raj institutions. “When 50% reservation was introduced, today it has effectively gone up to nearly 59% representation,” he said.

He further assured strict law enforcement on crimes against women. “If anyone dares to cast a wrong eye on women, Bihar Police will bring them to justice from anywhere,” he said.

Responding to controversies around affidavits and qualifications, Choudhary maintained that he has always followed due legal process. “Whatever the Supreme Court or judiciary directs, I comply with it,” he said, adding that all disclosures were made as per norms.

The speech comes at a time when Bihar politics is witnessing heightened rhetoric and social media scrutiny. By blending personal narrative, political counterattack and policy emphasis, Choudhary attempted to reinforce both his authority and the NDA’s collective resolve.
