Yogi Adityanath Claims ‘Jinnah Worshippers’ Forced Kairana Migration

Addressing a rally in Shamli district, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister alleged that “worshippers of Jinnah” were responsible for demographic changes and migration in Kairana, while accusing the Opposition of dividing society.

Lucknow, July 17, 2026 — Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday launched a sharp political attack on the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Congress, accusing them of following the ideology of Muhammad Ali Jinnah and alleging that their politics had contributed to demographic changes and migration from western Uttar Pradesh.

Addressing a public meeting in Kairana after inaugurating and laying the foundation stone for 89 development projects worth over ₹581 crore across the Kairana, Shamli and Thanabhawan Assembly constituencies, Adityanath invoked the issue of migration from Kairana and Kandhla to target the Opposition.

“The worshippers of Jinnah were changing the demography, and that is why migration was taking place from Kairana and Kandhla,” the Chief Minister said.

Without naming individual leaders, Adityanath alleged that the Opposition continued to pursue divisive politics.

“Whenever the followers of Jinnah get an opportunity, they will divide you in the name of region and caste. They will indulge in corruption in development works. They will compromise the safety of daughters and traders. You must remain constantly vigilant against them,” he told the gathering.

The remarks came as the BJP intensifies its political outreach in western Uttar Pradesh, a region that has witnessed intense electoral contests involving the BJP, the SP and the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) over the past decade.

The Chief Minister contrasted what he described as the law-and-order situation before 2017 with the BJP government’s record over the last decade. He claimed that Shamli, Kairana and Kandhla were once associated with fear, organised crime and migration but had since undergone a transformation through improved security and infrastructure.

Adityanath also highlighted major infrastructure projects, including expressway connectivity, power infrastructure and industrial investment, saying Shamli was emerging as a key growth centre in the National Capital Region. He cited the proposed integrated textile project, expansion of expressways and the revival of sugar mills as examples of the government’s development agenda.

The Chief Minister credited the Narendra Modi-led “double-engine government” for accelerating development in western Uttar Pradesh and said farmers were benefiting from timely sugarcane payments and increased production. He also announced that a Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) battalion was being established in Kairana and said new industrial projects would generate employment for thousands of young people.

In a separate appeal ahead of the Kanwar Yatra, Adityanath urged devotees to maintain discipline and ensure that no disruptive elements were allowed to create disturbances, warning that any incidents of indiscipline could be used by opponents to demand restrictions on the annual pilgrimage.

The BJP has repeatedly raised the issue of the alleged migration of Hindu families from Kairana in recent years, while Opposition parties have disputed the political narrative surrounding the issue. Friday’s remarks indicate that the issue remains part of the BJP’s political messaging in western Uttar Pradesh as it sharpens its attack on the Opposition ahead of future electoral contests.
