The Washington Post added a detail that gave the exchange real weight beyond the rally-stage jab: Harp, the Post reported, was among a small group of people who secretly switched planes with Trump over a potential Iranian threat — a fact Ossoff had specifically pointed to in raising questions about her access.

From Cancer Patient to Presidential Confidante

Harp’s path to Trump’s inner circle didn’t start in politics. Fox News’s own earlier profile of her recounts that she first drew national attention in 2019 as a bone cancer patient who credited Trump’s “Right to Try” law — which allows terminally ill patients to access experimental treatments — with saving her life after a 2015 medical error left her wheelchair-bound and in excruciating pain. She spoke at the 2020 Republican National Convention and worked for the far-right network One America News from 2020 to 2022 before joining Trump’s operation full time.

By 2022, she’d become a fixture close enough to the president that colleagues gave her a nickname that stuck: NBC News reported Harp is widely known as the “human printer,” a reference to Forbes’s account of how she carried a portable printer with her during the 2024 campaign to print off materials that might interest Trump, sparing him from having to read on a screen. Bloomberg described her current role plainly, reporting that as executive assistant, she’s seen as a gatekeeper, curating the news articles, social media posts and messages Trump reads, making her a constant presence both in the White House and during his weekend trips to his golf properties.

The detail that has followed Harp most persistently through national coverage involves a series of personal letters. Forbes reported that Harp once wrote to Trump, “With all my heart, Natalie,” part of what the outlet described as a broader pattern first documented by The New York Times of notes that unsettled some in Trump’s circle. A separate Yahoo News report on journalist Michael Wolff’s reporting quoted Harp writing in one letter, “You are all that matters to me.”

Yahoo’s report on Wolff’s book also described the intensity of that devotion during Trump’s 2024 criminal trial, where Harp sat behind him in court daily. According to Wolff’s account, when a gag order threatened to limit Trump’s ability to attack the case publicly, Harp reportedly offered to post his statements under her own name and go to prison in his place — an offer Wolff wrote left “a bewildered legal team” staring at her.

Family Speculation, White House Pushback

The renewed attention has pulled in Harp’s own family. A CNN interview quoted her estranged brother, Preston Harp, speculating about the roots of her devotion to the president: “Trump is like everything that my mom taught us to respect,” he said, adding, “So, I think that’s where her infatuation for Trump comes from honestly.”

That interview drew a sharp response from the president’s family. TIME reported that Eric Trump called the CNN segment “absolute trash” in a post on X, describing Harp as “an incredible young woman — a cancer survivor, a genuinely good person.” The White House mounted its own defence as well: Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told the New York Times, “Natalie Harp is one of the most loyal and hardest working aides on President Trump’s team,” while accusing Ossoff of using the moment as a distraction from his voting record.

Ossoff is up for reelection in November in a race widely viewed as one of the most competitive Senate contests of the cycle, and CNN reported that his invocation of Harp was part of a broader argument that Trump has surrounded himself with aides who act as his “security blanket” rather than governing seriously. Whether that specific attack line moves votes remains to be seen — CNN noted that Trump’s political operation has access to a $400 million war chest for the coming campaign cycle, dwarfing anything Ossoff’s team can match dollar for dollar.

But the episode has done something notable regardless of its electoral impact: it’s pulled Natalie Harp, a woman with no official title beyond assistant and no independent public profile, into a level of national scrutiny normally reserved for cabinet officials. For a role built almost entirely on proximity and discretion, that kind of visibility is its own kind of consequence.
