Ariana Grande Slams Trump for Using ‘We Can’t Be Friends’ in Anti-Trans TikTok Video

It’s the second time in two months the pop star has publicly called out the administration for using her music without permission.

Mumbai, August 21, 2026 — Ariana Grande is once again publicly clashing with the Trump administration, this time after the Team Trump TikTok account used her 2024 hit “We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)” to soundtrack a video pushing anti-trans messaging about women’s sports.

According to Variety, the Team Trump account posted a video on Thursday, August 20, showing the president walking toward a podium, with text overlaid reading, “Me and my truth we sit in silence… Men can’t have babies and should never compete in women’s sports.”

Billboard confirmed the same clip and caption, reporting that the post was captioned, “This shouldn’t be controversial! #trump #arianagrande #maga.”

Grande responded directly in the comments section of the post. “Never use my music again. Also, your truth is false.”

Grande’s label is working to get the song removed from the clip— a detail TMZ separately confirmed, reporting that a source told the outlet Ariana’s team was working to have the song pulled from the post.

This marks the second time in as many months that Grande has publicly rebuked the administration over its use of her music. Billboard noted that Grande previously condemned Trump’s deployment of ICE in June, after the agency posted a clip soundtracked by her 2024 song “Bye.”

The Daily Beast, which covered that earlier incident in detail, reported Grande wrote at the time: “Please do not ever use my music in relation to this barbaric, inhumane, heinous nonsense,” in a comment that was later deleted. The Daily Beast noted her objection appeared to have some effect, as the White House TikTok clip in question was later found to have no sound.

TMZ placed this week’s dispute in a wider pattern, noting Grande joins a list of musicians — including Beyoncé, Celine Dion, Rihanna, and Sabrina Carpenter — who have publicly called out the Trump administration for using their music. The Daily Beast similarly described the recurring music disputes as “one of the defining dynamics of the Hollywood-Washington relationship during Trump’s second term.”

The clash comes as Grande is in the middle of a run of shows in London. Billboard reported she is currently in the midst of a 10-show run at the O2 Arena as part of her Eternal Sunshine Tour. “We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)” was released in March 2024 as the second single from that same album and topped the Billboard Hot 100.

Neither the Trump campaign’s TikTok account nor the White House had issued a formal response to Grande’s comment as of the time of this report.
