Richa Chadha sizzles with her acting prowess, stands tall in film industry

As actor Richa Chadha is super excited to enter a new phase of her life, read The Raisina Hills exclusive tête-à-tête with the actor talking about her experience of working for audio format, shooting for Fukrey 3 and much more.

New Delhi, September 16: Actor Richa Chadha never misses a chance to push the envelope. She has donned one too many avatars, the latest being vulnerable yet courageous, Baby of Baby Doll, an Audible original.

Richa Chadda shines, and how. Acting in an audio show, she had earlier played a small town girl in much acclaimed Masaan; Chadda says it was an experience to play the role of a sex worker.

“I have done audio shows before, but it is for the first time I am doing a pure Hindi hinterland (audio) show. I completely enjoyed the experience. In an audio show, you simply engage the audience with purely your voice. It is just a different world created by the sound programmer and foley artist,” says the versatile actor.

Baby (Chadha) is a hurt and humiliated sex worker who is trafficked at a young age and has to live her life in a brothel. She takes on a dreaded underworld don, played by Jaideep Ahlawat, to avenge the violent death of her friend. Baby has a wacky sense of humour and quite sarcastic.

As entertainment is dwelling on new mediums to tell stories which get through the right audience, podcasts have emerged as new thing. And Chadda immediately said yes to Baby doll as she wanted to explore the area.

On sharing about the challenges of narration and preparation for it, she said: “In terms of preparation, we did multiple readings. We worked on the accent which had to be diluted to reflect my character’s background; the director took us through the hinterland and the true thrilling crime genre and prepped us in terms of how this revenge thriller will be communicated in an audio format.”

Richa started her career in Bollywood with bit roles in films like Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!, Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela. Her first big gig happened with Anurag Kashyap’s Gangs of Wasseypur (2012), where she bagged the role of Nagma Khatoon. The 36-year-old actor always pick up unique stories and wants to explore the different facets and personalities of the human mind.

Do you see audio shows becoming a part of the mainstream?

Richa relied: “There are so many people who are dabbling in the audio format. We have incredibly talented voice-over artists and theatre actors who have a trained and rehearsed voice with grain and texture. Moreover, people have always liked listening to the stories. I think we have a great future of audio shows.”

Richa has delivered several power-packed performances throughout her career. And not to be missed, She has garnered love for her roles on OTT as well. Recently, the actor was seen in Disney+hotstar special-The Great Indian Murder, which has been extremely well-received among cine-goers and critics alike.

Helmed by Tigmanshu Dhulia and produced by Ajay Devgan, the series came out in February 2022.

“I read the script in one go and I really liked it. I thought it would make a good thriller. It was very successful for five weeks after its release. It was the most watched show in the country and i was very happy. I think running for running it’s huge! My immediate instinct was to become a part of the show and everything worked out.”

Richa has also completed the shooting of ‘Fukrey 3’ that will be released soon. Talking of her experience she says, “I absolutely loved shooting for Fukrey 3, as it’s always a pleasure to reunite with the team. I know the film will be huge as the audience has grown on its own especially among children. So, we are all very optimistic.”

Apart from this, the second season Great Indian Murder in which audience will see us finally solve the case, and at least three films I need to finish between September and December. So, yeah, a lot of things in the pipeline!

And if we are to talk about her much awaited wedding, then that’s going to be happening very soon. Richa Chadha took to social media last night to confirm her October wedding with beau, Ali Fazal in the sweetest way possible.

Richa took to Twitter to tweet this with an image, saying “New Life, Loading… can’t wait for October”.

The couple are expected to have wedding celebrations and functions in Delhi and Mumbai, with a special party also planned in Delhi post the wedding in mid October at the iconic Delhi Gymkhana Club.

With several reports about their wedding, the actor has finally confirmed it seems and acknowledged their October nuptials, which have been much awaited. The duo was originally meant to be wedded in April 2020, but owing to Covid-19 restrictions and lockdowns, the wedding was positioned twice over.

Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal’s Delhi pre-wedding celebrations are to be held at this iconic 110 year old venue.

One of the places where Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal’s pre-wedding celebrations will be taking place is an exclusive and one of India’s oldest clubs. Established in 1913, the club is one of the country’s oldest and most exclusive venues in the National Capital, the Delhi Gymkhana Club.

The venue will host one of the ceremonies. The club is said to have a wait list of almost 37 years for a membership. The couple will have their wedding festivities begin by end of this month and will conclude in Mumbai in first week of October.
