Yogi Adityanath Says SIT Found No Saint Involved in Ayodhya Ram Temple Offerings Case

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said the SIT probe into the Ayodhya Ram Temple offerings case found no involvement of any saint and accused the Opposition of spreading misinformation about Sanatan and the temple.
Lucknow, August 4, 2026 — Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday asserted that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple offerings case has found “no involvement of any saint.”. He accused the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Congress of attempting to defame Sanatan Dharma, Ayodhya and the Ram Temple through “misleading claims.”
Addressing reporters at the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly, the Chief Minister said the investigation had established that “allegations against saints were unfounded and alleged that the Opposition was distorting facts despite the ongoing probe.”
The Chief Minister said the issue relates to offerings made at the Ram Temple and not to “donation theft,” as alleged by the Opposition. He said the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust had written to the Uttar Pradesh government on June 12 seeking an investigation after media reports surfaced on the matter. Acting on the request, the government constituted an SIT on June 13, he added.
According to the Chief Minister, the SIT submitted its first interim report on June 23, following which an FIR was registered in Ayodhya on June 25. Eight persons have been arrested so far. He said six of them were allegedly involved in diverting funds related to temple offerings, while two others were also arrested based on their role in the case.
Yogi further said that the matter is now under the supervision of the Supreme Court after it directed the reconstitution of the SIT while hearing a pending petition related to the case.
The Chief Minister maintained that neither the preliminary inquiry nor the SIT’s preliminary report found any direct or indirect involvement of any saint. He said more than 1,100 employees work at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple complex and that action had been taken only against those against whom evidence had emerged.
Calling Ayodhya a matter of faith for crores of Sanatan followers, Yogi said it was “surprising” that allegations were being levelled against saints and the temple despite the findings of the investigation. He added that those working at the temple complex have contributed to facilitating darshan for devotees and promoting religious tourism in Uttar Pradesh.
The Chief Minister also alleged that the Samajwadi Party and the Congress had consistently targeted the Ram Janmabhoomi movement and Sanatan Dharma. He claimed that none of the eight arrested individuals had any connection with the BJP or with saints and accused the Opposition of attempting to malign religious institutions and the temple through baseless allegations.
