AAP MP Gives Notice to Discuss Chinmoy Krishna Das Arrest in Bangladesh

By Raisina Correspondent

New Delhi, November 29: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Raghav Chadha has given a notice in the Rajya Sabha for discussing the arrest of the Hindu priest Chinmoy Krishna Das in Bangladesh. A Bangladesh court yesterday rejected the bail petition of Das.

Chadha in a notice has sought suspension of business in the Rajya Sabha. The AAP MP has sought an urgent discussion on atrocities being committed on Hindus in Bangladesh.

The AAP MP has stated in the notice that the arrest of ISKCON priest Chinmoy Krishna Das is another worrying sign of growing attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh. Chadha demanded that “the House collectively discusses and condemns the detention of ISKCON priest”.

There is growing anger in India against the arrest of Das. The Ministry of External Affairs in an official statement had yesterday asked Bangladesh to protect the minority Hindus.

The growing attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh came after the violent agitation led to the ouster of the Sheikh Hasina-led government and in her place, Muhammed Yunus took over as the Chief Advisor of an Interim Government.

Daily Star, a Dhaka-based daily, in a report said that a lawyer was killed during clashes between police and followers of Das in the Chattogram Court Building area yesterday. “The clashes left at least 10 people injured,” added the daily, saying that the supporters of the Hindu priest allegedly turned violent after he was denied the bail by the court.

Das has been slapped with sedition charges. The sedition case was filed by an activist of the Bangladesh National Party (BNP). Das is said to have given a call for a peaceful protest against the growing attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh.

Kolkata is witnessing massive protests over the arrest of Das. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has also urged upon the Centre to take appropriate steps to save the lives of Hindus in Bangladesh.

The Congress leaders – Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra – have expressed outrage at growing attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh. The BJP leaders in West Bengal have demanded that trade between India and Bangladesh be shut down.

Hasina also condemned the arrest of Das. She has expressed shock at the growing incidents of attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh. Some of the commentators have even called for stripping Yunus of the Nobel prize for leading an administration which has seen alarming rise in attacks on Hindus.

The Bangladesh Human Rights Watch has shared several videos of lynching of Hindu men and women in Bangladesh after the ouster of the Hasina-led government in Dhaka.
