Kharge in Blunt Message Tells Congress for Soul Searching
Congress Holds Brainstorming on Poll Losses

New Delhi, November 29: The Congress president Mallikarjuna Kharge on Friday asked the party leaders to introspect over losses in the Assembly elections. Kharge also admonished the Congress leaders who claim that the party is avoiding stock-taking exercise over poll reversals.
Kharge addressed the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting on Friday. The CWC meeting was attended by the Congress parliamentary chairperson Sonia Gandhi, leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, and others.
Kharge is plain speaking is seen message of the Gandhi family to the Congress leaders. The CWC meeting took place in the backdrop of the losses in the Assembly elections in Maharashtra and Haryana.
The Congress also lost heavily in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections. The Congress, however, held on to the strength in Jharkhand Assembly elections where the party won 16 seats in an alliance with the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM).
“At times, we become our own enemies. Some complain that they are not invited for discussions. Onus is also on them to build an ecosystem of discussions,” said Kharge per sources.
The blunt message of Kharge is seen aimed at the factionalism in the Congress units. The faction-fighting has been blamed for the loss of the Congress in the Haryana Assembly elections. The Congress came up with abysmal poll performance in Maharashtra Assembly elections.
Unlike a section of the Congress leaders who have been raising the claims of EVM manipulation, Kharge mentioned the issue in a passing reference. “The Election Commission should dispel doubts about the data about the voters’ turnouts,” added Kharge.
“In victory, we all win and strengthen us. In defeats, we all are losers. We should understand that collective efforts are needed,” said Kharge.
The CWC met for the third time this year. “We have established an ecosystem of consensus at the national stage. We have to maintain this. We need to improve ways the Congress contests elections,” said Kharge. The CWC congratulated the victory of the party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra from the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat.
The Congress president stressed that the “manner of contesting elections has changed. We have to adapt accordingly.” Political observers have blamed the Congress of coming short on a counter narrative against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Maharashtra and the Jharkhand Assembly elections.
Yet, the CWC in a resolution adopted in the meeting said that the “outcome of the Maharashtra Assembly elections is beyond our comprehension”. “There is no need to be disappointed,” the CWC resolution stated.
