New Delhi, March 22, 2026 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday chaired a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security to assess India’s exposure to the escalating West Asia conflict and fast-track protective measures across the economy.

The Cabinet Secretary gave a detailed presentation covering the global situation and sector-by-sector impact — spanning agriculture, fertilisers, petroleum, power, pharmaceuticals, shipping and MSMEs.

“Key decisions include alternate sourcing of fertilisers ahead of the Kharif season, diversification of pharma and petrochemical imports, and identification of new export destinations for Indian goods,” said the PMO in a media statement. Coal stocks at power plants were reviewed and declared adequate to prevent any electricity shortage, it added.

PM Modi directed the creation of a dedicated group of ministers and secretaries to work in a whole-of-government mode, with sectoral sub-groups consulting all stakeholders. He also asked for close coordination with state governments to prevent hoarding and black-marketing of essential commodities.

“All arms of government must work together to ensure the least inconvenience to citizens,” the PM was quoted by the media statement having said in the meeting.
