New Delhi, September 30, 2026 — Power corridors in New Delhi are abuzz with likely major overhaul of the Union Cabinet led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and consequently an expansion of the Marg Darshak Mandal of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The Union Cabinet has widely been speculated for months. The students’ protests led by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) and the unravelling of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the Election Commission have added fresh challenges for the Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister’s meetings with senior BJP leaders, including Chief Ministers of the party-ruled leaders, are being seen as a part of the exercise of a major overhaul of the Union Cabinet in the near future, which will also release a few of the faces for positions in the Margdarshak Mandal of the outfit and also Governors’ positions.
The meeting of the Prime Minister with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is currently a subject of intense speculation within the BJP. Both the leaders are being speculated to have discussed current political challenges, as well as the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
The BJP’s Margdarshak Mandal currently consists of the Prime Minister, party veteran L.K. Advani, former Union Minister Murli Manohar Joshi, and Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. Earlier Yashant Sinha and Shanta Kumar were also members of the Margdarshak Mandal.
The body of the elders was stated to have been formed to guide the BJP. But the entity is not known widely to have ever met.
Yet, the Margdarshak Mandal within the BJP has emerged as an entity to give an honour to party’s veterans. Speculation is intense within the BJP that a few of the heavyweights in the Union Cabinet may have to seek rehabilitations in the party with the Margdarshak Mandal now only left as a viable option after the unveiling of the national office-bearers of the organisation recently.

Sensing the major move unfolding in near future, some of the former Union Ministers in the Modi-led government have become more visible in New Delhi, meeting BJP leaders and also senior functionaries of the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS). They sense that the Union Cabinet recast will also open up spaces for gubernatorial positions.
