New Delhi, September 1: K C Tyagi has quit as the spokesperson of the Janata Dal (United). The Bihar Chief Minister, Nitish Kumar, replaced Tyagi with Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh as the spokesperson of the party.
Tyagi’s exit as the JD (U) spokesperson came on the close heels of his meeting with a representative of Palestinian leaders. Tyagi had also struck discordant notes on the Waqf Board Amendment Bill.
The JD (U) in a brief media statement said that Tyagi quit his position on own his own. “KC Tyagi resigned as the JD (U) spokesperson by citing personal reasons. The Bihar Chief Minister, Nitish Kumar, appointed Rajiv Ranjan Sigh as the spokesperson of the JD (U),” said the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) ally in a media statement on Sunday.

Sources within the JD (U) said that the party was in a spot due to utterances of Tyagi on contentious issues. “The media reports portrayed dissension in the ranks of the JD (U) on the Waqf Board Amendment Bill. The basis of such reports was the statement given by Tyagi,” said a senior functionary of the JD (U).
Tyagi has a socialist pedigree. He has been vocal about the old socialist stances on issues concerning the Middle East.

However, the bill was sent to the joint parliamentary committee. This has been attributed to the pressure of the NDA allies on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party.

Sources said that the Bihar chief minister had asked Tyagi to restrain from speaking on contentious issues after the formation of the NDA government for a third term. “Kumar had requested Tyagi to be cautious in making statements.
