New Delhi, December 3: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan in his first comments on the Assembly poll verdict credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the major victory of the Bharataiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state. Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia also underlined that the Assembly poll verdict is to the credit of the prime minister.
IT head of the BJP Amit Malaviya told a news channel that the BJP found a large number of the people coming to the first of rallies of Modi in Chhattisgarh that gave hopes to the party. He said that the Modi guarantees were liked by the people in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh.
In fact, Modi campaigned extensively in the poll bound states. He led from the front in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh. Sensing that the BJP was facing a major Congress challenge from the promises of caste census and welfare measures, the prime minister spoke of Modi guarantee to build the narrative that the promises made by the BJP will be fulfilled against unfilled promises of the Congress.
Modi emphasized in his election rallies that the Congress had not yet fulfilled the major poll promises in Karnataka where the party had won the elections six months ago. The Congress had come out with guarantees of cash allowances to the unemployed youth and the women. The Congress had also promised the farmers’ loan waiver.
But the people in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh rejected the Congress promises. The BJP leaders are crediting Modi for turning around the elections by hitting out at the Congress. The Modi guarantee clicked with the people. The BJP also came out with promises which were aimed at countering the big welfare push of the Congress.
Modi’s announcements for the extension of Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojna for another five years by which each person will get 5 kg of foodgrains for free each month and Rs 25000 crores scheme for the primitive vulnerable tribals worked wonders for the BJP. The two announcements by Modi effectively countered the Congress’ big welfare push with the prime minister seeking votes on his name.
In addition, Modi highlighted the governance failure of the Congress governments in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh. Modi’s sharp attacks on Ashok Gehlot on corruption and the law-and-order fronts simply decimated the Congress in Rajasthan. Modi raised the issue of Red Diary to build the corruption plank against the Congress government in Rajasthan. Modi was also sharp in his attacks against the Bhupresh Baghel government in Chhattisgarh on corruption plank. The BJP had been alleging liquor scam against the Baghel government in Chhattisgarh.
With Modi Brand shining in the Assembly election, the BJP is drawing confidence that the party’s biggest vote catcher is now warming up to the Lok Sabha elections next year. The BJP leaders were saying that the party is checking on the popularity of Modi among the people.
The Assembly verdict has cheered the BJP also for the reason that the Brand Modi was badly affected in the Karnataka elections six months away.
