Academy Museum Gala 2026: Taylor Swift, Charlize Theron, Colman Domingo and John Carpenter Take the Spotlight

Mumbai, October 18, 2026 — The sixth annual Academy Museum Gala on Saturday put pop and cinema on the same red carpet. Taylor Swift was billed to perform and close the evening in Los Angeles, which honoured three filmmakers and raised money for the museum.

Charlize Theron received the Icon Award, John Carpenter the Luminary Award and Colman Domingo the Vantage Award. Carpenter’s is first official honour from the Academy. Theron starred this year in Apex and The Odyssey, while Domingo appeared in Michael and Disclosure Day and has Best Actor nominations for Rustin and Sing Sing.

Steven Spielberg, Kate Capshaw and Robert Rodriguez co-chaired the evening. Proceeds support the museum’s exhibitions, education and screenings.

Swift was the night’s marquee name. W Magazine reported it was the first time she was both attending and performing, a year when her Toy Story 5 original song has been a success. She arrived in a strapless, icy-blue Dior gown with a pleated skirt, a train and a bow at the neckline. Museum director Amy Homma called her “an extraordinary talent whose work resonates around the world.”

The host committee included Teyana Taylor, Demi Moore, Kirsten Dunst, Greta Lee, Adrien Brody and Kate Hudson. Guests photographed included Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell, Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel, and Chrissy Teigen and John Legend.

Variety’s expected list also named Kim Kardashian, Jacob Elordi, Kendall Jenner, Eva Longoria, Salma Hayek and Sabrina Carpenter.

Fashion drew its own spotlight. Kendall Jenner wore Valentino with Cartier jewellery, Kim Kardashian vintage Balenciaga and Hailey Bieber Chanel, while Theron wore Boucheron jewellery and Domingo wore Valentino. One outlet noted Pamela Anderson wore a white button-down shirt with a flowing light-green skirt. Observers call the gala the “Met Gala of the West,” and it is a major stop for Oscar hopefuls and a first taste of awards-season trends.

The museum is also tying the honours to its programming. It has announced four nights of screenings hosted by Carpenter, including Halloween, linked to its new horror exhibition, The Horror Show.
