Geostrategist and strategic affairs commentator Brahma Chellaney receives the Distinguished Alumni Award as Hindu College honours alumni across fields.
New Delhi, September 27, 2026 — Geostrategist and strategic affairs commentator Brahma Chellaney was honoured with the Distinguished Alumni Award for Excellence in Public Policy at the 21st OSA Hindu College Distinguished Alumni Awards, recognising his contribution to public-policy discourse and international strategic analysis.
The awards ceremony, organised by the Old Students Association (OSA) of Hindu College, Delhi University, was held on September 26 at The Silver Oak, India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. The OSA in a statement listed Chellaney among distinguished alumni recognised across public service, economics, education, media, security services, literature and entertainment.
Chellaney has emerged as a prominent Indian voice in geopolitical commentary, with his writing focusing on great-power competition, Asian security, China, the Indo-Pacific, water security and the changing international order. He is Professor Emeritus of Strategic Studies at the Centre for Policy Research (CPR) and has held academic and research appointments at institutions including Harvard University, the Brookings Institution, Johns Hopkins University and the Australian National University. CPR says he has also served in an advisory capacity related to India’s national-security establishment.
His commentary frequently examines the strategic consequences of competition among major powers and the implications for India’s foreign-policy choices. In recent writing, he has addressed the future of BRICS, US-China competition, the Indo-Pacific, India-US relations, China’s regional policies and transboundary water security.
Project Syndicate lists him as a regular contributor and notes that he is the author of nine books, including Water: Asia’s New Battleground, which received the 2012 Asia Society Bernard Schwartz Book Award.
Chellaney’s recent geopolitical commentary has also examined whether the expanding BRICS grouping can contribute to a more multipolar international order, the implications of a possible Sino-American “G2”, and the strategic importance of the Indo-Pacific.
