After seven years away from the road, 41 shows, and a tearful farewell in London, Grande’s first tour since 2019 became something closer to a public reckoning with fame itself — staged, deliberately, as a goodbye.

The final performance capped a trek that began in June in Oakland and wound through North America before settling into a 10-night residency at the O2, during which Grande repeatedly framed the tour not just as a comeback, but as a deliberate farewell to a version of stardom she’s suggested she’s ready to step back from.

How It Started, and Why It Almost Didn’t Happen

Grande’s return to the road followed years of public uncertainty about whether it would happen at all. In a March 2024 Variety interview, Grande said she wouldn’t be touring “anytime soon,” prioritizing acting instead — before a planned 2025 tour was reportedly scrapped because, as she put it at the time, “acting feeling like home right now.”

It wasn’t until July 2025 that Grande began teasing a real return, writing on social media: “I plan to sing for you all next year. Even if its just for a little.”

That tour ultimately launched June 6 at Oakland Arena, running 41 shows across the US, Canada, and the UK before wrapping September 1 at the O2 — the tour’s only European stop, expanded from five nights to 10 after ticket demand outstripped the original run, according to Time Out.

A Show Built Around Erasure and Memory

Critics who caught the tour consistently described a production built less around spectacle for its own sake than around a specific emotional through-line tied to the Eternal Sunshine album’s themes.

A review syndicated via AOL described the stage as confined largely to “the burnt-out husk of a house,” first engulfed in flames, then weeds, then flowers, with recurring visual interludes following a character named Peaches — who “looks and sounds a lot like” Grande — as she contemplates erasing her own history before ultimately choosing to hold onto it.

That review characterized the overall tone as “sombre, reflective and often quite brilliant,” noting the show closed with Grande’s body “slack and floating,” absorbed into a wall of white light above the arena — a moment the review called “beautiful yet strangely morbid.”

Billboard wrote that the O2 opening night offered a similar read on the show’s ambition, noting Grande performed with “vertiginous vocal runs” and “intricate video imagery,” including live vocal looping that let her build a full backing choir from scratch on stage, alone.

A Surprise That Became the Tour’s Signature Moment

The London run’s most talked-about night came on its second date, when Grande’s “Wicked” co-star Cynthia Erivo joined her onstage. Attitude wrote that the crowd roared as the pair launched into a rendition of “For Good” from Wicked, followed by a medley of “Get Happy” and “Happy Days Are Here Again” — a moment that review called the “true highlight” of the evening, arriving amid a set that otherwise moved between tightly choreographed numbers like “positions” and “the boy is mine” and full-arena singalongs on hits like “7 rings.”

The Setlist Told Its Own Story

Part of what made the tour distinctive, according to critical coverage, was the visible tension in Grande’s own setlist between her earlier, more maximalist pop hits and the quieter, more introspective material from her recent work.

Older EDM-leaning crowdpleasers — including her Lady Gaga collaboration “Rain on Me” and the Zedd-produced “Break Free” — felt as though they’d been “beamed in from not only a different timeline but a vastly different Grande,” one who has largely moved away from the aesthetic that defined her earlier career.
