India-China Talks: Ajit Doval, Wang Yi Discuss Border Peace and Boundary Delimitation

At the 25th round of Special Representatives’ talks in Beijing, India and China reviewed bilateral ties, discussed border stability and agreed to continue work towards boundary delimitation.

New Delhi, August 25, 2026 — National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Tuesday co-chaired the 25th Meeting of the Special Representatives (SRs) on the India-China Boundary Question in Beijing. The two sides reviewed the momentum in bilateral ties. They also discussed measures to maintain peace along the border.

According to the Indian Embassy in China, the meeting focused on further expanding bilateral cooperation, maintaining stability and ensuring peace and tranquillity in the border areas, while making progress on the boundary delimitation process.

“The two sides positively reviewed the ongoing momentum in bilateral relations which is in line with the directions and vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping,” the Indian Embassy said in a post on X.

The two Special Representatives also discussed ways to sustain ongoing work on transboundary cooperation.

The meeting comes against the backdrop of efforts by New Delhi and Beijing to stabilise bilateral relations following the military tensions along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

The Indian side has consistently maintained that peace and tranquillity along the India-China border are essential for the broader development of bilateral relations.

The 25th round of the Special Representatives’ talks was held after Doval’s visit to Beijing from August 24-25 at the invitation of Wang Yi, who is a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and China’s Minister of Foreign Affairs.

According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry statement, the two sides noted progress in implementing the important consensus reached by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Kazan in October 2024 and Tianjin in August 2025.

They also expressed satisfaction with the steady resumption of people-to-people and cross-border exchanges, including the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra and border trade through the three designated border trading passes.

The two sides held a candid and in-depth exchange of views on the India-China boundary question and agreed to continue working towards a political settlement of the boundary issue in the context of their overall and long-term interests.

India highlighted the importance of maintaining peace and tranquillity in the border areas for the continued development and progress of bilateral relations.

Doval also called on Chinese Vice-President Han Zheng during his Beijing visit.

The latest round of talks signals an effort by India and China to maintain the positive momentum in bilateral engagement while keeping the unresolved boundary question at the centre of their strategic dialogue.
