UP Excise Department Sets New Revenue Record at ₹20,862 Crore

Excise Department reports record revenue collection between April and July 2026-27, while over 6,300 people are arrested in statewide drive against illicit liquor.
Lucknow, August 5, 2026 — The Uttar Pradesh Excise Department has reported record revenue collection during the first four months of the 2026-27 financial year, generating ₹20,862.42 crore between April and July, according to an official government statement released on Wednesday.
The collection marks an increase of ₹2,279.23 crore, or 12.27 per cent, compared to the corresponding period of the previous financial year.
The department also reported strong performance in July, collecting ₹5,052.86 crore, a 16.04 per cent increase over revenue collected in the same month last year.
The Uttar Pradesh government attributed the growth to policy reforms, strengthened monitoring mechanisms and administrative measures introduced under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Excise and Prohibition Nitin Agarwal said the department’s consistent performance reflected the government’s emphasis on transparency and efficient administration.
“The Yogi Government’s transparent policies, effective monitoring and improved administrative arrangements have enabled the department to continuously set new records. The Excise Department has been assigned a revenue target of ₹71,278 crore for the current financial year, and we are working with full commitment to achieve it,” Agarwal said.
He added that the government’s objective extends beyond revenue generation to curbing the harmful effects of alcohol abuse through stricter enforcement.
Excise Commissioner Adarsh Singh said the department had simultaneously intensified its crackdown on the manufacture, sale and smuggling of illicit liquor.
According to the official figures, between April and June 2026, authorities registered 29,294 cases, arrested 4,673 people, sent 819 accused to jail, and seized 30 vehicles allegedly used in liquor smuggling operations.
The enforcement drive continued in July, during which officials registered 9,769 additional cases, arrested 1,704 people, and sent 271 accused to jail.
The state government said the Excise Department will continue its twin strategy of enhancing revenue collection while strengthening enforcement against illicit liquor to achieve its financial and public safety objectives during the remainder of the fiscal year.
