Mumbai, May 10, 2026 — She has spent over two decades commanding the screen. On May 10, 2026, Trisha Krishnan took her place in the audience — and still managed to be noticed.
The veteran South Indian actress attended the swearing-in ceremony of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam chief C Joseph Vijay as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai. “For the occasion, Trisha wore a blue silk saree paired with a beige embroidered blouse, completing the look with statement jewellery. Before leaving for the venue, she briefly stopped to speak with the media outside her Chennai home,” reported Business Today. Asked about the significance of the day for Tamil Nadu, she said simply: “Thank you, looking forward.”
Understated, as always. But the presence meant something.
Trisha Krishnan was born on 4 May 1983 in Madras, Tamil Nadu, into a Tamil Palakkad Iyer family. She completed her schooling at Sacred Heart Matriculation School and later pursued a Bachelor of Business Administration at Ethiraj College for Women, Chennai. “Before she became an actress, Trisha had aspired to become a criminal psychologist. Fate, and a beauty pageant, intervened,” a report in Suryaa stated.
Trisha gained prominence after winning the 1999 Miss Chennai pageant, which marked her entry into cinema. After her first appearance in the 1999 Tamil film Jodi in a supporting role, she won a Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut for her first lead role in Mounam Pesiyadhe (2002). “What followed was one of South Indian cinema’s most sustained careers. Often referred to as the Queen of South India, she has received numerous accolades including five Filmfare Awards South, a Tamil Nadu State Film Award, and a Nandi Award,”
Her filmography per a report in Business Standard reads like a timeline of Tamil cinema’s most defining moments. Saamy (2003), Ghilli (2004), and Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa (2010) each marked turning points in her career, with the latter earning her a Filmfare nomination for Best Actress and a reputation for emotional authenticity on screen. In 2023, she starred in Leo, which became one of the highest-grossing South Indian films of that year, and reprised her role in Ponniyin Selvan: II, earning another Filmfare nomination for Best Actress.
Her recent work has only deepened her critical standing. In August 2024, she starred as a police officer in the web series Brinda, and made a special appearance in The Greatest of All Time with a standout dance number. Beyond films, she is a passionate animal welfare advocate known for running initiatives supporting animal rights.
