Punjab Problem

Timidity rules the affairs of Punjab affairs. The Pioneer has slammed the Punjab Police for capitulating to an armed mob carrying Guru Granth Sahib to attack a police station to free an associate of Amritpal Singh in Ajnala. The daily mocked at the Punjab Police argument that they couldn’t act because the mob was carrying the holy book, asking what the police would do if someone holding Ramcharitmanas goes on a killing spree. The Indian Express has also stated that Punjab is on a slippery ground, wondering why the antecedents of Amritpal Singh had not been looked into, as he arrived in a dramatic fashion from Dubai to take control of Deep Sidhu floated ‘Waris Punjab de’.

The incumbent Punjab government is complicit in abandoning law and order to the wolves. The Centre too cannot be a bystander, letting radicals to terrorise the people and mock at the rule of law. Punjab being a border state has several actors active. The Centre has to be proactive, as Punjab is now certainly at a stage where peace and the people have become prisoners of external intervention of arms and drugs.

Drowning Dissent

The Asian Age has slammed the arrest of Congress leader Pawan Khera, who was subsequently released on the intervention of the Supreme Court. The daily has stated that after the apex court suspended the sedition law “the ruling dispensation and outfits linked to it are resorting to filing multiple FIRs across the country”. “All in the dock cannot afford top-notch lawyers,” the daily told the Supreme Court, asking for a full-proof mechanism to stop the abuse of the jurisprudence. It also chastised Congress for lowering the discourse by letting people utter disrespect to the prime minister.

Assam, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat Police have been gung-ho to crackdown against dissenters, who err on their conducts, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, while sharing the unconditional apology of Khera, has warned that no erring person would be spared if they disrespect…Law is meant to be same for all in India, and if Sarma is serious about his vow than millions of people in the country should be in jails, for they keep abusing and disrespecting their fellow beings. Democracy needs fresh air.

Child Privacy

On the Supreme Court asserting that the children have right to privacy while dealing with a paternity suit, The Telegraph has turned spotlight on the custodians of child who are meant to protect the rights. The Kolkata-based daily stated that the children lack the wherewithal to enforce their right to privacy when the custodians themselves quarrel. The daily also suggested that the concept of privacy in India is essentially a theoretical concept. The daily also stated that personal data, including addresses and test scores of 60,000 children in 2020 were leaked.

The apex court had decried the claim for paternity test, while asserting rights of privacy of children. Privacy across the age group in India is undeniably compromised, because India has a toothless law.
