New Delhi, February 24: The Supreme Court may soon realise that passing an order is easy, but too arduous to implement them. The election for the standing committee of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is turning out to be a national show-stopper, giving a run of money to even thriller shows on television.

The councilors of the Aaam Aadmi Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) continue to wrestle on the mat to gain the verdict in their favour. But the poll outcome is not yet known, and the warring factions will resume their show now on Monday.

Shoes have been hurled. Bottles have been thrown. Councilors have been pushed and chased. They have even beaten their fellow members in the MCD. The women councilors too have shown their muscles. The videos making rounds of the internet show that there were ringmasters who handed scripts to the councilors to stage the violent play in the full glare of the media. The AAP leader Atishi Marlena has been alleged to have passed on instructions to women councilors of her party and soon after they have launched attack on the Opposition members.

The civil defence personnel have also stepped in the pitched battle between the BJP and the AAP. At stake is the control of the standing committee, which is the executive body of the MCD. The standing committee takes decisions and passed budget. The standing committee chairman of the MCD is almost the CEO of the civic body. The post of mayor essentially carries symbolic value. The BJP and the AAP have numbers in such ways that scales could go either way. The BJP having lost the mayoral election is keen not to let go the control of the standing committee.

Delhi’s newly-elected mayor Shelly Oberoi was livid at the BJP, alleging that the opposition party created a ruckus. She alleged that the BJP members even attacked her, while female Civil Defence personnel saved her. The BJP leaders have made similar allegations against the AAP.

The anarchist situation in the MCD now threatens to spill over outside. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has ordered that all instructions of the lieutenant governor of the national capital Vinai Kumar Saxena be reported to the concerned ministers. He has also ordered that the officials must not be taking direct order from Saxena.
