New Delhi, December 4: The US President-elect Donald Trump posted his photograph looking far towards Canada after his dinner meeting with Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau. Trump captioned the photograph – ‘Oh, Canada’.
Trump ‘joked’ with Trudeau that he could become a Governor of a US State if he cannot handle the economy of Canada. Fox News quoted two sources who were privy to the conversation between Trump and Trudeau at the dinner table.
The American broadcaster in a news report said: “Trump joked with Trudeau that if Canada cannot survive without ripping off $100 billion from the US annually, then his country should become the 51st state of the US and he could think of becoming a Governor”. Trudeau had flown to the US for a dinner meeting with Trump after the US President-elect announced his plan to slap 100 per cent tariff on imports from Canada.
Trump on his campaign trails had raised the issue of the trade deficit of over $100 billion with Canada. Trump has vowed to slap tariffs against imports from Mexico and Canada. Trump also has vowed to renew his trade war with China.
“While at Mar-a-Lago, Trump told Justin Trudeau that if Canada can’t survive without screwing over the US out of over $100 billion per year, then the US should just take over Canada and make it the 51st state,” stated Nick Sorter, a US-based broadcaster, while quoting report of Fox News.
The US billionaire Elon Musk, a key advisor of Trump, has publicly been ranting against Trudeau. Musk has said on several occasions that Trudeau will be ousted from power in Canada after next year’s elections.
While Trump has been rattling foreign nations with his threats, the US broadcasting media has a field day with fresh batch of pompous claims of the President-elect. Mexico and Canada heads of states rushed to discuss issues raised on election trails in the US. Mexico promised Trump to deliver on his twin poll planks against illegal immigrants and drug trafficking.
“Such statements have an effect. Talk of annexing Canada, abandoning NATO and threatening nations with punitive tariffs give leaders of those countries no choice but to defend their national sovereignty and pride against Trump,” said Joy Bookman in a post on X, a US-based media person, while making sense of Trump’s rhetoric against Trudeau.
Trudeau is battling a sinking economy in the US. Unemployment is stated to be at a record high level with price rise rattling the middleclass population per Ottawa-based media reports.
