Indian Women footballers shine; two sign for foreign clubs

New Delhi, July 6: Away from the media glare, the Indian women footballers are raising the bar, with their dribbles and silky touches on grassy grounds in the international soccer tournaments.

After Manisha Kalyan, another woman footballer from the Gokulam Kerala FC club Dangmei Grace has signed a contract to play with a foreign club.

The feat of the two women footballers are already the talk of the town in the soccer circuit, as their achievements showcase arrival of India on the world scene.

Both Manish Kalyan and Dangmei Grace have been the star performers of the Gokulam Kerala FC club.

The Indian women football team has recently been to Brazil, where they played against the host and Venezuela, getting the key international exposure even while they continue to excel in the Asian circuit. In Brazil, the girls played against their icons, checking on the fitness level, and drawing much confidence after scoring goals.

For the Gokulam Kerala FC club, it was a lovely week, as Gracy found her way into an international club, and she happens to be the sixth ever from the country to sign such a contract overseas.

The 26-year-old forward player hails from Manipur and she fortuitously had begun playing football in a state which is passionate about the sport.

Oinem Bembem Devi, Bala Devi, Dalima Chibber and Aditi Chouhan have previously signed with the foreign women football clubs.

The Gokulam Kerala FC Club earlier announced that Manisha Kalyan will play in the UEFA Club for Cypriot Champion Club Apollon Ladies. She happens to the only woman Indian footballer to play in the UEFA Cup.

The women footballers, incidentally, have caught the attention of the international clubs after their Indian counterparts began staging league tournaments. Manisha Kalyan happens to be the first Indian woman footballer to score against Brazil. She hails from Punjab.
