CJP Protest Erupts Outside Parliament Street Police Station Over Alleged Jantar Mantar Assault

CJP leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, joined by MP Chandrashekhar Azad and supporters, reached Parliament Street Police Station demanding action over injuries allegedly suffered by a protest supporter’s father.

New Delhi, September 4, 2026 — A fresh political confrontation unfolded outside Delhi’s Parliament Street Police Station as Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) spokesperson Saurav Das, co-convenor Ashutosh Ranka and supporters gathered to demand police action over an alleged assault during protests at Jantar Mantar.

The protesters are demanding the arrest of Swatantra Bharadwaj, whom they allege was involved in an attack on Sanjay, the father of CJP supporter Nishu Azad. The protesters claim Sanjay suffered head injuries in the incident.

CJP leaders and supporters proceeded from Patel Chowk to Parliament Street Police Station in connection with the case. Nishu Azad was also present along with Lok Sabha MP Chandrashekhar Azad.

The demonstration has added another layer to an already politically charged dispute, with protesters questioning why an arrest has not been made despite what they describe as serious allegations and an alleged admission by Bharadwaj. A podcast interview clip went viral yesterday in which Bharadwaj claimed to have broken the skull of the victim, while escaping police action due to his political connections.

CJP demands attempt-to-murder charge

Saurav Das alleged that Sanjay had been accompanying his daughter, described by him as a minor, during the CJP protest at Jantar Mantar.

According to Das, violence broke out when people allegedly entered the protest site. He said an FIR was subsequently registered, but CJP continued to press the police to treat the incident as an alleged attempt to murder.

Das also demanded invocation of the SC/ST Act, alleging that the victim belongs to a Dalit family and arguing that a caste dimension should be examined as part of the case.

“We continued putting pressure on the police, saying that this was an attempt to murder and that the relevant section should be added,” Das said.

He further claimed that police officials advised the protesters to approach a court for appropriate directions.

The allegations made by CJP leaders have not, in themselves, established criminal liability. The investigation and any subsequent court proceedings will determine the facts and applicable charges.

Ashutosh Ranka alleges police inaction

CJP co-convenor Ashutosh Ranka said Sanjay suffered head injuries during the Jantar Mantar protest and accused Delhi Police of failing to act despite repeated demands from the organisation.

Ranka alleged that people linked to the incident were openly acknowledging their involvement, but claimed that no arrest had followed.

“Delhi Police arrest the accused and register an attempt-to-murder case against them,” Ranka said while outlining CJP’s demands.

He further alleged that police action was being influenced by political considerations, naming Kapil Mishra and BJP workers. These allegations remain claims by the protesters and have not been independently established in the material provided.

CJP is demanding the immediate arrest of those it identifies as being involved, along with investigation under what it describes as serious applicable provisions of law.

AAP raises police neutrality question

The confrontation has also drawn a political response from the Aam Aadmi Party.

In a post on X, AAP alleged that the distinction between the police as a public protector and as an instrument of political power had been blurred under the Modi government.

AAP further alleged that plainclothes personnel were used to facilitate violence at the CJP protest and questioned whether any such deployment was ordered by senior officials.

The allegations made by AAP are political claims and would require independent verification.

Chandrashekhar Azad joins protesters

ASP MP Chandrashekhar Azad also arrived at Parliament Street Police Station along with CJP supporters. Nishu Azad was present with the MP as protesters gathered outside the police station.

The presence of Azad has given the dispute an additional political dimension, with the protest increasingly becoming a test of how Delhi Police handles allegations of violence surrounding political demonstrations.

The central issue now is whether the police investigation will result in arrests or additional charges and whether the protesters’ demand for an attempt-to-murder provision and invocation of the SC/ST Act will be accepted.

For CJP, the issue has become a question of accountability and equal application of the law. For the police, the challenge is to establish the facts through a fair investigation and determine the appropriate legal provisions based on evidence.

The episode also underlines the increasingly contentious nature of political protests in Delhi, where disputes over policing, political influence and the right to peaceful assembly can quickly become larger political confrontations.

As the CJP demonstration continues outside Parliament Street Police Station, the spotlight is now firmly on the Delhi Police investigation and whether the competing allegations will be resolved through due process.
