Passengers Slam Air India for Poos Travel Experiences

By S Jha

New Delhi, March 2: Even months after acquisition of Air India, the Tata-owned airlines continues to face fury of flyers. From poor conditions of aircrafts to poor travel experiences, flyers are venting ire at Air India.

“The famous airline Air India has sunk to new lows when it comes to customer services. I booked and paid for business class tickets from LHR-BOM-BDQ return. For no known reason to myself, we were downgraded to economy from BOM-BDQ sector both ways,” wrote Dilip Patel, managing director of a consulting firm in a lost on LinkedIn.

Flyers are venting their ire on Air India amid Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan making his displeasure for travelling in the airlines known through a social media post. Chouhan recently hit out at Air India for allotting him a broken seat.

“I had a poor experience last September on Melbourne-Mum-Kochi… Old 787 with non- functional displays, even toilet seats were broken,” wrote Florent Cozon in a post on LinkedIn. DGCA has held meetings with Air India over complaints.

The BJP spokesperson Jaiveer Shergill also went public with his outbursts against Air India for poor travel experiences. “My hope and trust in Tata’s innate ability is wearing thin,” added Cozon.

Patel stated that Air India “sent me three emails offering us to upgrade BDQ-BOM for a payment of GBP 28 and GBP 34. When I called, the agent couldn’t help. The downgrade to economy without any explanation and payment back is bad enough but then to ask payment for the upgrade is a gross insult to the customer.”

Sick leave sickens Tata-owned Air India Express

He also stated that several passengers are expressing dissatisfaction at the services of Air India. Tata Sons had acquired Air India after months of the government bid to privatise the airlines. Later, Tata-owned Vistara was merged with Air India.

“Everyone had high hopes for better services when Air India was taken over by the Tata Group. However, the situation appears to be very disappointing, both on the ground and in the air,” wrote Mathew Thomas in a post on LinkedIn.

An agent with France chez Biogasmart Progeco Ecomembrane said that he had taken “Air India flight 15 days ago from Paris to Delhi in an Economy class. I had to call the hostess to switch on my light on her onboard computer.”

Harsh Dhingra, another flyer, said that “my experience is somehow bad due to old aircraft still being in the use”. “In international flights, entertainment displays are not working at majority of seats. Internet being introduced has not been working. The airhostess and other staff were clueless and avoiding even the discussions,” wrote Dhingra.

He stated that “it seems Tata has still not introduced their professional experience to bail them out”. Air India in recent announcements said that the airlines is beefing up international operations.
