New Delhi, January 20: Donald Trump in his oath speech after swearing in as the 47 President of the US vowed to drill oil to make his country great again. He declared an energy emergency to fight off inflation.
“We will drill, baby, drill. We will be a rich nation again, and it is that liquid gold under our feet that will help to do it,’ said Trump in his inaugural speech.
Trump also announced that he is ending plans for the ‘Green New Deal’. He also paused his processor Joe Biden’s initiative for electric vehicles.
“I am declaring a national energy emergency,” said Trump as he referred to energy prices as principal reason for inflation. Trump on campaign trails for the November elections had vowed to cut down inflation by half.
Trump’s assertions to drill oil to make the US again harks back to the original economic boom of the country by drilling oil. At the same time, Trump also rang alarms among the climate activists by greenlighting fossil fuels for the economic growth of the US.
In the first term of Trump, the US had staged a walkout from the Paris Accord. Afterwards, the climate change mitigations efforts had taken a significant blow. The UN in a report recently noted that none of the countries met the carbon emission cut targets after the Covid-19 outbreak.
Trump also spotlighted his resolve to rollout anti-immigration efforts. In his inaugural speech, Trump gave previews of his upcoming executive action on immigration.
“I will declare an emergency at the southern border and reinstate several of the policies which were implemented during my first term in the office. I will end the practice of catch and release. I will designate Mexican drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations,” said Trump in his toughening of the stance on the illegal immigrants crossing over into the US from Mexico.
Trump took the oath of office to become the 47th president of the United States. He also became the only second president in the US history to serve non-consecutive terms.
Trump entered the Capitol Rotunda, escorted by top members of Congress. “The Rotunda erupted in applause when Trump entered. He shook some hands along the way, and greeted his wife with an air kiss,” said CBS News in a live update on the oath ceremony.

“The challenges facing the country will be annihilated by this great momentum that the world is now witnessing in the United States of America,” said Trump in his inaugural speech. He hit out at the Biden administration in his speech, saying: “We now have a government that cannot manage even a simple crisis at home, while at the same time, stumbling into a continuing catalogue of catastrophic events abroad.”
Trump also said that “|we have a government that has given unlimited funding to the defence of foreign borders, but refuses to defend American borders or, more importantly, its own people”. His statement is being seen aimed at the US funding of the war efforts of Ukraine against Russia.
“Many people thought it was impossible for me to stage such a historic political comeback. But as you see today, here I am, the American people have spoken. I stand before you now as proof that you should never believe that something is impossible to do,” said Trump.

He asserted that “in America, the impossible is what we do best”. “To every parent who dreams for their child, and every child who dreams for their future, I am with you,” said Trump as he showed his future roadmap at the helm of the government.
Trump also mentioned the assassination attempt on him last July. “I believe now that my life was saved for a reason; I was saved by God to make America great again,” added Trump.
