New Delhi, March 10: At 84 years of age, veteran Gujarat leader Shankersinh Vaghela is seeking to grab the poll pivot in the state. Vaghela will soon embark on another Yatra to pitch an alternative agenda for Gujarat.
With Prajashakti Party, Vaghela is canvassing in Gujarat for an alternative model. At the cente stage of his plan for Gujarat is his promise to abolish the prohibition policy in Gujarat.
“We are holding dialogue with the people from all walks of life. We are raising support for our plan to abolish the prohibition policy in Gujarat,” said Parthesh Patel, a close associate of Vaghela. He said that the people on a large scale are supporting the agenda to abolish the prohibition policy in Gujarat.
“The annual revenue loss of Gujarat due to prohibition is almost ₹60,000 crores. The prohibition policy has given birth to a largescale bootlegging, brewing of illicit liquor, and people losing lives in a bog number due to consumption of the spurious liquor in Gujarat,” Patel told The Raisina Hills.
Patel said that “even foreign liquors are being brewed in homes in illicit manners in Gujarat”. “We will bring a scientific prohibition policy. The revenue earned will be spent on supporting the people in availing higher education. We will also be able to cut down the medical expenses of the people,” said Patel.
In Bihar also, Prashant Kishor is spearheading campaign to abolish the prohibition policy. Kishor is also making similar arguments that the revenue loss due to prohibition is massive. Kishor has launched Jan Suraj in Bihar.
“We are promising to offer free Mediclaim policy for ₹15 lakh. We will also provide free of cost higher education to the youth. They will be adequately skilled to find gainful employment,” added Patel.
He said that there “is a massive rise in the number of the unemployed youth in Gujarat. The youth are working more as gig workers,” said Patel.
He also said that the drop out ratio is also rising in Gujarat. “The economy is not in good health and the youth is bearing the brunt. We are promising to skill the youth so that they can be competitive. We also need to scale up the strength of the industry to become competitive in the global market,” added Patel.
He said that Vaghela is actively canvassing to prepare for the 2027 Assembly election. Patel said that his party is building cadre strength.
