Mayawati Accuses Akash Anand’s Father-in-Law of Conspiracy

By Raisina Correspondent

New Delhi, March 2: Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati on Sunday removed her nephew Akash Anand from all party positions. Mayawati also dropped Akash Anand as her heir.

Making an apparent family-feud public, Mayawati accused Ashok Sidharth, father-in-law of Akash Anand, of working against the BSP. “Ashok Sidharth, who is the father-in-law of Akash Anand, hatched conspiracies to turn the BSP into two groups. He has been involved in anti-party activities,” said Mayawati while addressing a press conference in Lucknow on Sunday.

The BSP supremo removed Akash Anand from the post of the national coordinator of the party. “Akash Anand will not be my heir. There will be no heir to me from my family till my last breath,” announced Mayawati.

She gave the responsibility of the national coordinator of the BSP to her younger brother Anand Kumar. Akash Anand is son of Anand Kumar. Mayawati’s claims suggest that the two ‘Sasurs (father-in-law)’ have been sparring.

Mayawati also mentioned that influence of Ashok Sidharth on his daughter needs to be watched out. This has fueled speculations within the party circles of the emerging equations within the extended family of the former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh.

Akash Anand was also pulled out from the midst of the Lok Sabha election campaign. Mayawati had described him as an “immature” person who required more maturity to hold high positions within the BSP. But soon Akash Anand was back leading the BSP campaign in the Haryana Assembly elections. He also led the BSP campaigns in the Delhi Assembly elections.

Mayawati Warns BSP Workers Against Threat to Dalit Vote Base

Within a month of the Delhi polls, Mayawati stripped Akash Anand of all political responsibilities. “Akash Anand failed to make any impact in any parts of the country with his election campaigns. He was seen as a parachute politician. The party workers don’t relate with him,” said a senior BSP functionary.

The internal turmoil in the ruling family of the BSP has come at a time when political observers are noting the fast decline of the outfit. After losing power in Lucknow in 2012, the BSP has been on a steep downhill journey in the electoral politics of Uttar Pradesh.

The BSP failed to open account in the Lok Sabha elections. Emerging Dalit leader Chadrashekhar Azad ‘Ravan’, who was subjected to ridicule by Akash Anand, stunned the BSP by winning from the Nagina Lok Sabha seat. Ravan is pulling young Dalit to his political outfit to pose a serious challenge to the BSP in the western Uttar Pradesh.

Mayawati has entrusted the national political task to Anand Kumar. Rajya Sabha MP of the BSP Ramji Gautam will also be co-national coordinator of the BSP.
