Rahul Speech; ‘Cartoonesque Propaganda’; Tracking Virus
Opinion Watch
Rahul Speech
The Asian Age has said that former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi must be allowed to speak in the Lok Sabha. The daily also argued in an Editorial that it’s for the people to judge if Gandhi erred in his utterances in London. It’s none of the business of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the editorial sought to argue, while dismaying at Parliamentary disruptions.
The daily has lent its weight to Gandhi’s remark that since he had been attacked by four ministers on the floors of Parliament, he should be allowed to respond to them in the Lok Sabha. It rued, “there is no institution beyond partisanship”, while stressing that normally the Lok Sabha Speaker should have allowed Gandhi to speak, adding “it’s no normal time”.
The BJP back-bencher in the Lok Sabha Nishikant Dubey wants Gandhi thrown out of the Lok Sabha. Congress’ KC Venugopal wants same against Prime Minister Narendra Moldi for allegedly defaming Nehru. Certainly, it’s not normal time, for fringe is dictating the mainstream. This may be the right time to worry for the future generations, for fringe is fringe because they have no merit to be the mainstream but they thrust forth with the power of muscle and lung.
‘Cartoonesque Propaganda’
The Telegraph in an Editorial has turned its lens on four-minute cartoon video on Modi, which has been released by the BJP leaders, tracking the prime minister marching along, ascending in politics in fact, despite Congress leaders abusing him along the way. The Kolkata-based daily has said that the video is without humour.
The daily also opined that the video is crude, calling it a work of cartooneque propaganda. It also wondered the scope of the farmers’ agitation, students’ protest and also “stifling of the Opposition voices in Parliament”. The daily stated that “for the BJP the propaganda is more important than the dignity of the chair of the prime minister”.
The lament of the Kolkata-based daily gains strength from the prevailing Parliamentary situations. Political discourse is no more about competing politics, but sworn enemies seeking to finish off others. Democratic lapse is certain.
Tracking Virus
The Pioneer has warned that the government should not resort to knee jerk reactions to the spate of H3N2 and Covid. A senior citizen and an MBBS student have died of the infections. The daily has underlined that the economy is not yet out of the woods. It noted, however, that risks of viral infections are all around and real.
The daily has said that the response of testing, treating and tracking have served well, and that should remain the approach. It added that the flu season this year is indeed bad. The daily stressed that no one is ready to undergo the torment of restrictions again.
The economy is struggling to stake baby steps to recovery. But the virus spread must be countered with medical system staying two steps ahead, and not lying idle in hope of the people gaining herd immunity all the times.
