Caste Census is Inevitable to Break Quota Ceiling, says Rahul Gandhi

By Raisina Correspondent

New Delhi, November 6: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in Maharashtra on Wednesday said that the caste census is inevitable. Leader of the Opposition stated that the reservation ceiling of 50 per cent needs to be broken to give representation to the “90 per cent of the population in all walks of life”.

“Whenever I talk about caste census, Modi ji says that Rahul Gandhi talks about dividing the country,” said the Congress leader, alleging that Prime Minister accuses him of practising divisive politics in the country.

Gandhi reiterated that he continues to raise the issue that “90 per cent of the people of India are not participating in the progress of the country”. “If you want to see tribal, Dalit, backward people, then they will be seen in the line of MNREGA or doing labour,” added the Congress leader.

Gandhi yesterday had given an example of the sinking of Titanic because the iceberg that hit the ship was mostly hidden under the waters of the Arctic Ocean. “The Titanic sank because the iceberg was not visible. The similar condition is of the caste discrimination in the country which remains invisible,” Gandhi had said in Hyderabad yesterday.

“You will not find these people in the media or judiciary. My job is to raise the voice of the people of India. You said that caste census should be done, I raised this voice everywhere,” added Gandhi.

The Congress leader argued that the “caste census will ensure that every section of India will know what their role in the country, how much power and how much money they have”.

“I attended the ‘Disha Meeting’ in Rae Bareli. There I asked the officers to introduce themselves. When the introduction started, I did not find the name of people from Dalit, OBC class in it,” claimed Gandhi.

The Congress leader also claimed that, from corporate to judiciary, “we do not see people from Dalit, OBC and tribal community”. “This is the situation everywhere, where we cannot see 90 per cent of India,” added Gandhi.
