By Raisina Correspondent

New Delhi, September 27: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday said that if his party comes to power at the Centre the “GST (in the current form) will be removed and changed”.

Gandhi released a video featuring him in an interaction with young entrepreneurs in Jammu. The Congress leader had this week been to Jammu to address public meetings for the Assembly elections.

The Congress leader during an interaction with young entrepreneurs said that large monopoly is hurting the Indian economy. Gandhi said the existence of monopoly businesses is hurting small business and startups.

Gandhi said: “The frustration in the eyes of a young startup owner from J&K reflects the struggles of most entrepreneurs and small-business owners in India. ‘Modi ji’s monopoly model’ has taken away jobs, devastated MSMEs and deprived people of opportunity.”

The Congress leader also said that the “systematic attack on small and medium industries through incompetent policies like a bad GST and demonetisation has turned India from a producing economy to a consuming one”.

Gandhi mentioned the question of the owner of the Annapurna chain of restaurant owner to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. “The owner of the restaurant exposed the problems with the GST. But he was ridiculed by the BJP. He was made to apologize,” said Gandhi.

The Congress leader stated that the difference between the BJP and the Congress lies in the fact that “we will patiently hear you out even if you shout at us”.

“At this rate we can neither compete with China nor ensure prosperity for all Indians,” said Gandhi. The Congress leader added that the “monopoly businesses in India – Adanis and Ambanis – are just traders”.

“The monopoly businesses do not create employments. They just label goods imported from China as ‘Make in India’,” added Gandhi.

The Congress leader stated that “India deserves better. We must simplify GST and open up the banking system to small businesses to promote widespread opportunity and job creation.”

The Congress leader was responding to a complaint of an entrepreneur. She said that all her capital went into the GST notice reply works, and she was left with no money for work.
