New Delhi, March 3: Prime Minister Narendra Modi presided over the meeting of the council of ministers on Sunday evening where he unveiled his 100-day agenda for the next government. The Election Commission is likely to announce the poll dates in the next few days, and the next government is likely to be formed by end of the month of May.

The 100-day agenda spelt out vision of Modi to accelerate works to hasten meeting the sustainable development goals (SDGs), set for the 2030 deadline by the United Nations. Also, Modi stated that his government has a blueprint ready for India to achieve the aims of becoming a ‘Viksit Bharat (developed India)’. The Modi government often says that India will become a developed nation by 2047.

A note put out from within the government with stress that the inputs be attributed to the sources in the government said: “Council of ministers brainstormed on vision document for Viksit Bharat 2047 and detailed action plan for the next five years. A 100-day agenda for immediate steps also worked upon for quick implementation after formation of the new Government in May, 2024.”

It may be noted that several action plans have been put in place after Modi became Prime Minister for the first time in 2014. The NITI Aayog had come out with now forgotten ‘Three Years Action Plan’. Incidentally, the government sources are not saying that the blueprint for the ‘Viksit Bharat’ has been prepared by the NITI Aayog.

The note said: “The roadmap for Viksit Bharat is a result of more than two years of intensive preparation. It involved a ‘Whole of Government’ approach, involving all ministries and wide-ranging consultations with State Governments, academia, industry bodies, civil society, scientific organisations and mobilization of youth for seeking their ideas, suggestions and inputs.” It further added that “more than 2700 meetings, workshops and seminars were held at various levels. Suggestions of more than 20 lakh youth were received.”

The roadmap, said the note, for Viksit Bharat has a comprehensive blueprint with clearly articulated national vision, aspirations, goals and action points. “Its goals includes areas like economic growth, SDGs, ease of living, ease of doing business, infrastructure, social welfare, etc.,” added the note.

However, the note is silent on specific and the details are general in nature which have found mention in several of the documents put out by the NITI Aayog and other agencies of the government. Incidentally, Modi spoke of the 100-day agenda in a manner as if his leading the next government is a fait accompli.
